Not too long ago I ditched my core 2 platform for my new thuban, which is working ok. So I decided that I would put my core 2 parts into my parents PC, which is badly in need of an upgrade.
Old Parts:
Athon 64 Venice 3500+
ASRock Sata II motherboard
OCZ RAM 2GB DDR
New Parts:
Core 2 Duo 6420
Gigabyte 965p ds3
2 Gigs Supertalent DDR2 RAM
I have run the new parts going into the system for months on end so I know they work. When I swapped the parts out and rebooted, the system detects the hard drive properly and tries to boot windows (he is running Windows Vista Business). The windows loading screen appears and starts to animate, then the screen flickers and the system restarts. The same think happens when I tried to restart into safe mode.
I then went into the BIOS and set all settings back to factory defaults. This was to make sure that my (now formerly overclocked) CPU didn't have any odd issues with his computer. The same problem occurs. And on top of that, I think the factory defaults disabled legacy USB keyboard support, so now I need to find a PS2 keyboard to even work on the thing any further.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? If all else fails, I could just put all of his old parts back and call it quits, but it took me all day to get this thing set up and swap out parts and I would hate for nothing to come out of it.
