hi, i am using windows xp profesional SP2 and have aquired a new motherboard, CPU and RAM, is there any way, that would be faster than reinstalling windows, that could alow me to use my current windows xp installation with the new hardware?

thanks in advance :respect:

1) uninstall every motherboard driver

2) load standard ide drivers

3) run sysprep.exe so that it can reset the HAL.

4) replace mobo

5) reactivate...

I've done that with the 865PE chipset motherboards. Abit IS7 to AS8 with no problems. If your motherboards are similar, it might work. Back up your data before you try it!

More easier if its going to be similar chipset like Nvidia series. If all other components follow similar pattern then its just pulling the hdd and plugging into new combo.

Or run a ASR and copy the backup on to another hdd. Use the floppy to store the ASR info. Put in ur new combo, run ASR from Windows XP installation CD. follow the questions and u r good to go.

And if its a AGP mobo that u r going to replace uninstall the damn Gart drivers or u r screwed.

If your new mobo uses the same chipset you should be fine. If not, XP will likely moan and bitch thinking its in an entirely different system, and may well enter self-destruct mode. One way around the latter (and no I see no moral wrong in it assuming its a legit version of XP) is to use a keychanger to use a cracked XP key. This will stop XP from doing any retardedness, after you can just use the keychanger and put your legit key back in. I do that all the time otherwise formatting would be a neverending process.
