This is a weird one. My girlfriend complained that although we get high framerates in WOW there was a ground stutter whenever she moved the character. If she was just panning the camera, no stutter, only when the character was moving. So I looked into it for her, doing the normal googling. I found alot of threads with people claiming they had the same problem.

Here are the various fixes they had all tried, none of which worked on our game -

-Reduce input lag in the video menu
-Enable vsync
-Go back to stock clocks on CPU,memory and graphics card
-Disable any AA
-Disable AF
-Affinity process - set to 1 or 2 cores

I had FRAPS on measuring framerates, when I launch the game to the menu where you have to enter your login details it would show 185fps and the dragon flies onto the screen (its Wrath of the lich king) The dragon was all stuttery, I then login and the game starts, running at 128fps and stutters when he moves.

I then restarted the game but noticed the same login menu with the dragon was now at 250fps(previously 185) and the dragons movement was smooth with not a stutter in sight, i then login again and the game is running at 220fps(previously 128) and not a stutter in sight when the character is moving.

This is with absolutely not one change in any settings:confused:WTF??

Tried this a few times, launching the game and every time it started with 128fps in the menu it guaranteed stuttering in game, when it launched and was 250 in the menu it guaranteed no stuttering whatsoever in game.

I hope this helps others who may have the problem but seriously what the hell is going on here, there is no rhyme or reason as to why this would happen is there?

Any info or help on this would be greatly welcomed as it makes me wonder about other games performance that I play (the ones that really matter )

Sorry for the long post but wanted to get the absurdity of it across.

Well thats very very interesting. i get 80-120 fps in game usually with the exception of dalaran and some raid moments. And ive never seen stuttering at all.

ive got no explanation for this at all, but interesting nonetheless.

Could the card be getting stuck in idle or something? I know if you click off screen the card ramps down and the frame rate usually cuts in half.

Equally odd fact on wow, if you run windowed mode (most people do) set the resolution to the same res as your desktop, even though you're resizing it anyways it runs faster. Doesn't make much sense.

Im not so sure on that. i run windowed mode now, using 2 monitors, before was just 1. so can switch over to msn very easily. i have performance drops more. for example marrowgar fight has been lagging me lately (with the exception of yesterday)
