Worth upgrading to Ryzen 5000 series from 3000?

thinking of a 5600x or a 5800x, is worth it from my current R5 3600? or should i stick with what i have for now?

I plan to wait & see the cost of the yet to be released 5800X3D. If it is too much I may swap my 3800X out for a 5800X or 5900X at some point. I'm not planning to replace this build for some time though.

I guess it depends on the timeline when you may be considering an upgrade to a DDR5 system.

Would just stick with what you have. At 1440p the real world difference on majority of games will be somewhere in the 8-15% range which is decent but not drastic

To me it was worth it.. going from 36XT to 56X was a solid bump.

Prices of the 5000 series should drop with the release of new products. I noticed the 5950X has just reduced in price. Keep an eye out for a good deal where you are.

There really is a big performance bump between 3000 and 5000 series for gaming and production work. I've had both.

on 1440p no, on 1080p maybe

might be worth waiting for 5800x3d launch to see the performance since b450 will probably support it

1st ive heard of this 5800x3d tbh, will have a look into it

AMD is claiming 3DV Cache to offer a generational performance uplift so might be worth the wait.

Hi,
Prices are finally dropping
5950x this morning from a third party showed up on amazon for 499.99 lol
Gone fast sold/ shipped by amazon now is 599.99

what do you do that such a recent CPU is no longer valid? or is this a case of having too much money?

According to W1zzard's testing, there's a 3.1% difference between the 3600 and the 5600X.

My SuperPi 32M time went from like 11 or 12 minutes to just over 5 minutes.. good bump :) Daily operation is much nicer too. It’s a smarter CPU that runs cool and boosts high..

Gap has gone up since then, that review was from the end of 2020. The recent reviews have the 3600 and 5600x farther apart but not by a ton (13-15% range)

The 3800X dropped € 20 - 50 after R5000 was launched, that's not a lot.
Sure, not a normal market during this period, but then again, if we were back at normal now I bet some Ryzen 5000 would cost even less already.

Not with the OP's GPU.

I went from a 3700x to a 5800x
With a GTX 1080 at the time, i saw my average FPS in games go from 120, to 140-165 (my Vsync limit)
When i got the 3090, it kinda just stayed at 165 :P

A 5600x is basically the same as every other zen 3 as far as gaming goes - if you're CPU limited in a specific title or aiming for high refresh rates/FPS, upgrade.

I went ahead and did, got the Ryzen 5 5600X! Is it just me, or are a lot of Ryzen 5 3600s poopy clockers compared to Vermeer? I suspect they got bad bins like Intel, with the E2180s.

And even with the well-liked (obviously, because they are so popular) Ryzen 7 3700X, I'm don't feel as confident. Too many stories of how Matisse seems too easy to damage! (IIRC)

This looks interesting.

(Now I'm just yearning for dozens of identical too-little-too-late posts all over TPU forums.) /s

As an another owner of a 3600, at least 5600X is out of the question for me, I want more cores with my next upgrade. I already had a 2600 before this, and while it was an okay upgrade, I'm not getting a third six-core Ryzen.

This looks interesting.

A 5700X could be indeed an interesting one, depending on the pricing.

I was contemplating a move to a higher end 5000 series, but I can't really justify the cost as my 3900X does what I need it to do. I do some Handbrake video encoding and that's about it, and gaming of course where the 3900X with my RX 6900 XT handles every single game I've thrown at 'em at 3840x1080, max ingame (except where RT is involved). I was thinking of a 5950X or a 5800X3D, but I still don't see a need for such an upgrade.
