x1950 512MB DDR3 (SYSTEM HEATUP) - PLEASE REPLY!

Hi there,

I have a very disturbing situation

My specs are as follows


Intel D101GGC Motherboard
512MB DDR Ram
1GB DDR Ram (Kingston)
Sapphire x1950 PRO 512MB DDR3 PCI-E Card
300GB Hard Disk IDE
A Normal Power Supply Box which came along with my assembled computer.

Now the problem is that whenever I try to play games such as WARCRAFT3 (not tried any others yet coz the graphic card just arrived today), the systems FAN starts running very fast. And by using a software called as SPEEDFAN it shows the overall temp as to 53C.

I am very worried about wot is wrong with it? When I touched the harddisk it was burning hot. But as I stop playing games the temp gradually decreases to 44C.

I have ordered two PC COOL FANS from ebay. To attach them to my casing. Hope that works?? If i am not wrong

Could someone out there please suggest that wot is wrong with it? Because before connecting the PCI-e x1950 card, the system didnot run soo fast. ???

Should I change the power supply? If yes then which one is the best to support my motherboard? Mine is INTEL D101GGC.

fine e way to fit a fan to cool your hard drive
wat is the computer model? (not your motherboard)
you write that the computer came assembled

I also have two roms installed..

1. LITEON DVD-COMBO
2. SONY DVD WRITER 18X - DVD-RAM



One another problem is that I have only 1 power supply cable left which is empty. And I have bought 2 PC FANS! Can they both pick up the load from one POWER SUPPLY CABLE??

for a start get that pos generic psu that came with your case and throw it i the bin, the longer you have that then the more risk you run of doing some damage to your system, a card like the x1950pro requires a good psu with decent amps on the +12v rail (20+a for dual rails or 30a for single rail.) make sure you get a decent make such as hiper/ocz/coolermaster.

the x1950pro's are known to get hot so you could always get a good aftermarket cooler for it if your worried but 70c load would be considered fine. as for the fans, thats a good idea, just be sure to maximise your cooling effinciency by thinking about where your going to put them and which way there going to be blowing. and last but not least, do some cable managment and try to keep your pc dust free as this will improve airflow.

If its one of those cheapo Psu's that comes with
a prebuilt average computer then your probably
severly underpowered on you 12V+ rail for that system.

Remember a cheap case like that costs maybe $40 or $50 so the psu
inside might be worth $10 or $20 at the most. Most quality psu's cost
$50 and up , more then the worth or you entire case.

That vid card is pretty power hungry also.

And the recommended system power supply for a 1950Pro is a combined 30A, It is unlikely that a cheepo generic PSU will throw that amperage out on it's 12V rail(s).

TWO FANS (I bought em from eBay yesterday, 120mm 12V/DC Internal good quality Case Fan In Black with pass through Molex connector)

I also have a 80gb IDE connected hard disk which I would like to connect too after changing the psu box.

??? I am just a bit worried that after connecting this power supply to my mobo, wont there be any risk of mobo burning up or shorting??

Zohaib,

The first PSU looks better. And its got enough power for all your devices + the extra IDE.

BUT I see you have a mATX mainboard. If you also have a mATX case... this is also part of your problem. The P4 3.2 and your new GPU get very hot... and they are getting hot in a small box which doesnt help. Add another IDE in this small space and it will start baking... so room for nice airflow. Consider getting a new case. (without PSU). A metal case helps conduct heat too.

Always go for the quiestest fans (and PSU)... or the noise of them ALL will get on your nerves.

I'd be tempted to go more with a namebrand PSU that is
known to be good.

FSP , Sparkle, OCZ, Antec are pretty good. Stay away from the Psu's that have
more then 2X12V rails. Personally I like Sparkle, they are quite reliable and not too expensive. Other company's such as OCZ Fortron also use the same internals.

The casing is of black metal. My current PSU has just got one power plug spared now! When I connect my extra 80gb hard disk to it with the same IDE I use to connecet my 300gig hard disk, the computer doesnot bootup. It stays on the specs screen when it's turned on. Booting up, NIL!

So as the extra power supply cable is there, it's just hanging in. I thought to use it for my two fans but again a sign of distress. The whole system might heat up or might be there is not enough power to start the pc after connecting those fans.???

I have called intel today! And I was advised to get 480Watts Power Supply!! Anything more than that could wreck my system.

So any bright ideas of which power supply should i be looking for??

not colorsit or trust :shadedshu they are cheap makes and are going to be no better than your current one, also you will not blow your system out with more than 480watts if you have a 700watt psu it will only feed your pc the power it needs (phone that intel guy back up and tell him hes a big fat N00B!!! )

get a good coolermaster/ocz/antec/hiper or similar psu

If you have paid for it then I wouldnt worry, it has good amps and 480w isnt really going to give you headaches for what your running

Well now as I have got my two pc Fans! I have connected one to the casing and the other one I managed to fix it myself on the base i.e. below the PCI slots. So that the air may start cooling the x1950.

The overall system rating is not more than 41C or 42C now .. But anyways I have already bought a new power supply from xilence . 480Watts! It's on its way! Lets see if it makes any difference.

Secondly, I just took a peek at the SPEEDFAN and it shows something like this

Just a bit worried about that graphics card thinghie! I mean i just played the game for 5 minutes to test. And it shooted up there...??? Any bright ideas???

53*C is nothing for a graphics card. Man, stop worrying PCs can take that no sweat

Also, where the hard drives are, thats where a fan is meant to be, the fan where the graphics card is, is a waste. There should be a fan grille at the hard drive bays, intake. You cant have no intakes because the HDDs will die. With the push-pull config, it will give better results than putting the fan near the graphics card; heat rises, it doesnt fall!

What sizes are the PC fans? (Call them case fans, u sound noob saying PC Cooling fans).

Well, the fans wont help, go get yourself a Zalman VF900CU. The stock cooling on the X1950PRO Sapphire is sorta crappy so yeah. Then move the case fan under the graphics card to the HDD bays.
