X570 CPU to corner of board?

I have an Asus Proart x70 creator wifi motherboard. My graphics card is a Strix GTX980-4GD5.
I have my 24 pin connected to the board. My problem is the power connection on corner of the board has a 8-pin and 4-pin connection. One end of the cable, connected to the CPU, is eight pins. The other end has a "y" type connector. It has 2 6-pin ans 2 2-pin connections. What is the proper way to connect?

What power supply, you have manuals for the psu

Sounds like you have the PSU end of a GPU power cable plugged into the CPU 8pin of your motherboard with the other end typically used to connect a GPU to a PSU(the two split connection)

Wrong cable in that CPU spot.

6+2 are PCIe PEG cables for graphics cards. EPS are the 8Pin that sometimes can be split to 4+4. They will not socket wrong because the plastic mold is different the pin layout

For the power supply. One side goes to the PSU and the other goes to the MB. These general can't be swapped and only one side goes in. If your unsure check the PSU manual.

If you connect the EPS12V 8-pin cable correctly, you aren't obliged to connect also the 4-pin one. It's there for extra power supply, but it's not mandatory.

Depends on the motherboard

That was more than helpful. Thanks for the help. I was thinking that way but wanted an assured response from someone else.

Worst case, it just won't turn on without the 4-pin. No damage should happen.

Never had a system be damaged because a power supply connector wasnt installed. Its only when installed incorrectly damage can occur (AT 2 plug main power, black lines had to be next to eachother)

I believe I now have it connected correctly, video card. But all I get is 2 small lights on the card with no action on the monitor. I have been working on this computer since May of 2022. I did have it running on one stick of memory for a couple of months. I ran into a BIOS issue and sent the board to Asus. Since I got it back all I get is 2 small lights on the video card, nothing else. A paperweight except for 2 small lights. I should give up but I can't afford to upgrade my recent upgrade. At least back in May, it was recent.

I would advise taking the best pictures you possibly can of your build.
Post them here.
