X570

I think the bigger question is what is your reason to go with End of Life 5x0 chipsets instead of 6x0 or 8x0 series?

I already have an extra AM4 CPU and some DDR4 memory. If I choose to put a system together I will go with a B550 board instead of X570.

Love X570, lots of lanes and compatible with near every Ryzen CPU while retaining modern features. B550 is enough but the cost difference for them used is about the same so I'd say X570 is worth it.

X570 is perfectly fine estimated throughout 2028 and possibly 2030 if you're smart. I still run this TUF board paired with a Ryzen 5 3600.
If you want max potential of X570, get whatever Ryzen 5000 series, a single pair of DDR4-3200, a pair of cheap FAST g4 M.2 drives for RAID.
Good ventilation and STRONG water cooling for stability, a chonker GPU for literally anything, maybe a SFP card and USB header breakout card.
Tune vcore by targeting quick benchmark tools like CPU-Z then heavy stuff to feel how it wants to behave and then start memory overclocking.
If it's done this way, there's no instability you can get out of running memory ↗3600-3800 all day and no shortage of local disk I/O. Works great.

The problem with X570 in 2025 is finding a new one, and/or finding a new one at a reasonable price. If starting from scratch, IMO going with AM5 is the better option. If going for an AM4 budget build, B550 is the better choice.

I no longer recommend buying anything on socket AM4, the latest CPUs are now around 5 years old and they no longer hold up if you're paying the prices asked for new hardware. In most cases, you're better served with a Ryzen 5 9600X instead of a 5700X3D, for example. Anything AM4 right now should be upgrades or part replacements for existing systems, and with budget in mind - if too much needs to be replaced, going AM5 or Intel 1851 is a better idea right now.

Someone else wanted X570 in the past.

I bought at the end of the platform a B550 mainboard.
Personally I would buy a cheap new B450 / B550 / A520 mainboard. cheap which fits the needs with the latest updates.

Note that security updates will be limited and end sooner as Ryzen 7000/ ....
Note that existing security flaws will get more.

I would not buy any am4 mainboard which costs more than 30€, they have costs from 25-30€ in the past. 8gb ddr4 stick was sold and bought in 2023 for 5€ each. cpu cooler max 20€
Processor anything which is cheap. 2023 was a 25-30€ ryzen 3 3100. Anything else is not worth it anymore.
Power supply unit, graphic card, computer case can be reused for later. Computer cases are quite cheap = 5€ or free on the second hand or e-waste market.

AM4 is also in the price range of refurbished notebooks and refurbished desktop pcs.

While it's better to have the newest for the future, if you can find an x570 at a reasonable price, it's more then worth it! You will not be sorry for it, and there still very powerful CPU's available for it. It was and still is a very potent and powerful system with an x570 chip-set. Some options on it are still better then the B550 chip-set.

For not to many money, you can buy a 5950X CPU with 16 core's and 32 thread's! Very powerful and works still more energy efficient then the more modern CPU that warm up your house.

I don't have any bad word about it and i still use one with a ASUS ACE X-570 Workstation mobo. With a 5950X CPU you are good for the next 5 year's, let me assure you!

Personally I think that these days X570 is overpriced when compared to B550, unless you get a good deal.

If you look good around, you can someday do a good deal for sure. But yes it's always the same an older version goes soon up in price. The board's you find on Aliexpress, are not so bad for a good price, i tried some of them. Not bad quality at all. But yeah it's not Asus or MSI quality but it is a stable system and runs all games with a cheap Ali X570 Mobo.

And if you can find a good deal with a B550.... Well that is a no-brainer i guess.:)

Is X570 still worth it in 2025, or is a good B550 board enough?
Have you already got an AM4 processor? Or Are you planning a new purchase?

I like B550 better tbh.

I purchased and sold my B550 mainboard. It was not worth it when Ryzen 7000 and AM5 did not exist at the end of the platform.

I used a pcie 4.0 m2 nvme in the lower PCIE 3.0 slot. B550 is still better in some aspects for Input output as some newer mainboards, even high end boards.

I should have bought a B450 board instead

2025 I would only buy 50€ max board, or a B450 one. B550 or X570 only when its decent and 70€ max in some cases.

I would only buy X570s when the person in question really needs X570
