Xbox Elite Series 2 controller RB button not registering correctly

Hi! I bought the controller 4 months ago and it worked well. In the last couple of days the RB button has stopped registering correctly. It registers about 50% of the times, you basically need to double press it to make sure it registered.
I read somewhere that applying wd40 can help, so I sprayed a little bit (I didn't completely remove/open the plate because I didn't want to cause any damage. I opened it slightly before applying the spray). It didn't have any effect.
Is there any viable solution, or am I wasting my time with it?
Thanks!

This is a video of the bug I sent to the ebay seller. Obviously I have no high hopes from that angle. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GOdj0e-gdmNUnH0UqqV0Q7lyoZY3-1bp/view?usp=sharing

If it is 4 months old I would use the warranty. Not fiddle around with old wives tricks

Assuming it's not under warranty and not able to be returned to eBay, take it apart (not too difficult) and see if pressing the button directly on the board shows the same behavior. If it doesn't, you can shim the RB button so it more firmly presses the actual button. Also you should clean up any wd40 in there, it will just attract dirt and debris.

Obviously the ebay seller sold his controller for a reason...

That's what they're known for, yep. Quality control issues abound, despite Microsoft repeatedly and loudly declaring everything is fixed. Given you bought from eBay and are months out it's really not the seller's fault, so that's unlikely to go qnywhere. I wouldn't have even contacted them - these things are just badly made.

I seem to have lucked out with the one I got for $60 off Craigslist a few months ago, but I knew it was a time bomb when I bought it. A couple of years earlier I returned 4 to Best Buy in quick succession, as they were all broken straight out of the box - one, the right bumper wouldn't work, two the A button registered intermittently, and the last the left stick was broken, stuck at and angle and grinding, before I ever touched it. These were all brand new factory sealed.

The current one occasionally doesn't register the A button, but I mostly use the back paddles so it's not that big a deal. Still pathetic considering the price and how well known all the issues are.

The most frustrating part is that it's still the best controller you can get for Xbox and PC, so far as feel in hand and customization. Maybe Scuff makes something better, but I'm not willing to spend $200+ to find out and don't know anyone that has one I can try.

I saw someone claim these are easy to open, and yeah, that's definitely not true... Every Elite controller I've ever seen sold as "repaired" had obvious damage from where they opened it.

I have Xbox clone controllers that I use and guess where my Xbox1 controller is. The head on the Mini HDMI is gone and though I could buy a cable to fix it i prefer to get one for under $40 on Amazon.
