This should be a no brainer, but i am having tons of issues here. Friend of mine has a roughly 1998 1999 vintage machine- running millenium edition and wanting to get to xp. so i started by scrapping the 10 gig drive, threw 256mb of ram and upgraded the cpu from a 600mhz celeron toa 900mhz cause i had one layin around. now millenium runs like crazy and everything is fine. so i grab a 7200 rpm 40 gig drive, load up xp-- everything is fine and all is well all the way to the first reboot.

then it comes back-- operating system not found.

its not giving me the option to format fat 32, and i checked the drive on another computer and ntldr is there and so is everything else that should be....:banghead:

did it again with a 32gb cap limit on the drive--- same thing

had this happen one other time but cant remember what i had to do-- if remember correctly there was some file that had to be used instead of or along with ntldr for the boot.

and yes i checked all the bios settings and like i say-- everything goes normal until it goes to reboot after loading the primary files.

anyone got a clue i would sure appriciate it:respect:

EDIT: going to try copying the millenium boot files over from the old drive to the new one and see if that works-- i have no clue--- honest to god-- this is the first time i have ever seen or run millenium edition....and i gotta admit--- this would drive me insane.....but its running pretty darn good for an old dog
