The Teamgroup T-Force Vulcan Z is a solid-state drive in the 2.5" form factor, launched on May 10th, 2022. It is available in capacities ranging from 240 GB to 2 TB. This page reports specifications for the 1 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Teamgroup T-Force Vulcan Z interfaces using a SATA 6 Gbps connection. The SSD controller is the SM2258XT from Silicon Motion, a DRAM cache is not available. Teamgroup has installed 64-layer TLC NAND flash on the T-Force Vulcan Z, the flash chips are made by Toshiba. Please note that this SSD is sold in multiple variants with different NAND flash or controller, which could affect performance, the "Notes" section at the end of this page has more info. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are soaked up more quickly. The cache is sized at 372 GB. Copying data out of the SLC cache (folding) completes at 59 MB/s. The T-Force Vulcan Z is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 500 MB/s write.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 60 USD. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Teamgroup guarantees an endurance rating of 800 TBW, a good value.
