Staying put with 8.12's.....took me a month to get crossfire working properly with these HD4850's.....I just aint gonna risk cocking it all up for a driver package that does not offer me enough in return for the crossfire heartache.

Just installed them on my rig, i did have the issue with the 8.12s not installing and been classed as "incompatible" with my gpu's in the error 43 issue some people had.

After installing the 9.1s i only got to see the curser, the rest of my login screen was black, i managed to login and could still only see my curser, the rest of the screen was black unfortunately (i could tell the machine had finished loading by the hdd activity light), had to system restore to 8.11hotfix from safemode.

After re-downloading the drivers and doing a proper reg clean from the 8.11 hotfix drivers for x58 motherboards i've now got the 9.1s working correctly, so anyone who had the code 43 error with the 8.12s should definately give these a shot since it looks like they fixed it :)

Define proper reg clean? I did this after using DriverCleaner.NET in safe mode with CCleaner and TuneUp 2009 registry cleaner, then I installed 9.1 and got code 43 still. Someone on game.amd forums said that it probably has to do with older bios on the card. My bios is from 10/2007 from the launch of 3870 and I'm thinking I should update it to the newer ones in 2008. I don't know if it would fix it but what do yall think?

I think reinstalling Windows will be a better Idea. I had the code 43 problem with my 4850s and reinstalling windows was the only cure. I could use 8.11 but I wanted 8.12 installed.

Well that just sucks, I don't want to reinstall.

Bios version is the stock BIOS. I forget what versions. Yes I used DriverCleaner, CCleaner, and Regedit32.

So I wonder what is causing the problem, if a clean install would fix it. Something drivercleaner deleted OS related.. I should just first see if a windows repair on vista recovery cd would restore a missing file that would fix this.

Runscanner ftw. But be careful with that thing ;)

I have used Guru3D driversweeper (not exactly the best program), CCleaner and Runscanner in order to get the job done...

I used drivercleaner.net too (latest updates, run in admin mode), did a clean for the standard "ati" filter after uninstalling with the ati install manager (custom uninstall>select only drivers and ccc to uninstall). I did notice that it took a loooong time to shutdown for the restart to complete the installation (5+ more mins than usual on the shutting down screen) but when it came up it was all very happy and running nicely.

I also had to re-download from the ati site as i must have had a bad download from tpu first time round and wanted to read the patch notes while it downloaded.

The "release notes" where a bit boring. I was expecting more after such a long delay.

I did download them anyway but i'll wait this weekend to try them out.

not much else they could, they did the stream processing update last time so not much to expect with these drivers. Me I'm very close to selling my 4850.

The system update for 8.12 at 9.1 was easy .... I use the ATI uninstaller .

I have start to believe , that because of an older ATI uninstaller ,that failed to do the job right.
People just continue to be skeptical , and use unnecessary methods (Driver cleaner) .

About the performance of 9.1 on AGP , i am still checking .

I`m seeing this thread on the main page and all the time I was thinking it is about sound related 9.1 surround or some thing. Now I`m reading 117 post in two days I`m saying to my self this could not be about surround sound. :D

All that hype for a couple of bug fixes and no multi-threading. :(

BTW with the (.1 I downloaded I got alot of graphical glitches with the object textures, the rocks would flash alot etc. in Crysis

Back with good ol 8.12 hotfix

I had to remove the 9.1 :shadedshu

At Adobe Photoshop 8 CS , i could not even use the paint brush .
I tried to create a striate line , and the trail was like spiral .
Photoshop is a dynamic graphics software , if a driver can not handle it ,
then its no good .

So I when back to 8.12 Hotfix , Yes Photoshop works again.

If the upcoming 9.1 Hotfix , does not handle the issue , i will stick to 8.12 as long as it takes.

so... did this resolve the "atikmdag.sys stopped responding" then BSOD issue? can't seem to find it on the release notes... :banghead:

tried 8.6 up to 8.12, still didn't find any resolution...

There was an issue of 4850 crossfire BSOD issue, its resolved by 8.12 hotfix, I'm not sure if "atikmdag.sys stopped responding" is being caused by your drivers or a faulty card, I would probably look for a different solution if I were you.

Anyway with 9.1 drivers my benchmark with crysis on dx10 64bit all very high was low 20's or under.

with 8.12 hotfix it is 32fps dx10 64bit all very high, big difference.

They added a new OpenGL 3 I think ....well I have a hunch thats whats messing with OpenGL apps ....anything OpenGL is real buggy.....probably ONLY works correct with OpenGL 3...I am assuming.Still the 8.12/hot fix are doing well especially compared to the 9.1's

Why does everyone still uninstall and wipe clean the old drivers before installing the new ones? I thought since the 8.0's you didn't have to do that.

I just click Install and everything is fine, not one problem. My driver and catalyst are all updated without even uninstalling 8.12 before the 9.1. Am I missing something?
