Hmm, alrite! You just being neutral, man!

It just seems that you and I have a similar taste in games.. unlike some other tech sites that only cover a handful of recent-release games (for example, ARMA 2, Demigod, etc..) that I did not really care for. It's quite refreshing to see my old favorite games still being pushed to the limits in today's benchmarks. Company of Heroes, although pretty "old" for now, is still my favorite for benchmarking so far, since my jaws keep on dropping in awe when I see 2560x1600 8x AA and DX10 running smooth at last with today's hardware.

lol u gotta be kidding, i can barely barely tell the difference between 8x n 16x. id rather the gpu just be awesome n be like 2.5 times faster than the gtx 285 lol

I don't think AFx32 would not be that very useful on modern monitors. Monitor resolutions would need to be considerably higher to reap any gains from AF levels >>x16. And considering it's hard to differentiate between x16 and x8 from normal viewing distances without magnification...

I personally couldn't spot a difference between no AF and 16 AF at 1680x1050, maybe a minor one, but now that I play at 1920x1200 I really can't. Maybe if I looked hard for it, but if I'm playing a game my concentration is probably elsewhere.

I'm a little irritated at myself for upgrading last month, yeah a release date would be nice. Ebay, here I come.

A single card that powerful is going to be great, microstutter is so horrible in cod I don't even stand to play it.

However, I think I can get what I paid for the 295 for it even used so no biggie. I read recently about W1zzard not being able to release info till the 22nd but I've not yet heard of a set date for release, is it the 22nd?

Yes but watch and see the geforce boys always hold back a bit on performance and then right before a AMD release they put out new drivers releasing a bunch more potential. The AMD cards will be faster but watch and see if geforce hasn't been holding back just like last time.

All rumors point for nvidea to be in serious troubles to get those chips up and running...
Seems they got 10 waffles from tsmc from which 7 engineering samples of the gt300 were working, first samples it seems, all points for and if possible new nv hardware by next year, some doubt nv can pull this out...
Thats just stuff i read somewhere, so we will only know when we actually hear from nv...

Hmm, but I do not think that the D3DAFTester images you used are that good of showing the real-world visible differences in high-detail AF'ed textures. I gotta dig around for some that does show some differences, but you're right that they are rather "slight" between 8x and 16x. If the performance demands are extremely slight between 8x and 16x (less than 1% most of the time), then why not 32x?? If we're clamoring in awe of 16x AA or 24x CFAA nowadays (which is pretty much overkill over 8xAA at 2560x1600), why not 32x AF, which would probably be more meaningful at 2560x1600? When I use 2x2 SSAA (usually in combination with 2x or 4x MSAA) with Nhancer, I get 32x effective AF because it doubles 16xAF. It looks nicer! The textures just look that much better. There's a comparison of all of the different modes over at nhancer.com Well, I guess we'd still be able to get 32x AF anyways since the leak/rumor is that ATI will finally introduce full-scene SSAA modes.

AF did not work on Crysis for a while with either Nvidia's or ATi's hardware, or both, IIRC..

Nvidia has the funds and resources to be able to surprise anyone. I would never count out the big dog, they do have other ways of competing with AMD's newer cards ya know, besides the obvious launch of GT300. Like someone said before, newer drivers could improve performance on current 260/275/285/295/etc...we will have to wait and see when 5k comes out.
