Sony confirms personal PSN data compromised.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network

In response to this intrusion, we have:

1.Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2.Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3.Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

yes, all their transactions use ssl. all of their data is also encrypted. the hacker got a hold of the data and is most likely working hard at decrypting it. i hope you all use hard passwords.

was talking with a freind about this. these things can affect pc users too, Microsoft live was my example but I'm sure there's a title or 2 that was ported from the ps3 to PC that had their sign in compromised as well.

yes, all their transactions use ssl.

Unfortunately that is "Sony's Security Lipservice" and not secure socket layer as most would assume.

Seriously, Watch any CCs or whatever you may have tied to your account. You should be doing this anyway if you do any transactions on the interwebz for anything.
I check all my accounts at least 3 times a week to spot trouble.

Dang! This sucks on so many different levels I'm just barely starting to grasp it! I also check my cards online from time to time, but knowing my address and other info has also been compromised is shocking.

Dunno if'll ever trust a console with all this information again, not that PCs are safe either, but having more control over who you're giving this information to on a PC makes you feel less vulnerable somehow.

Gonna have to do some damage control as soon as I get back home, just checked online and that particular card seems to be in order.

Sony should've been more forthcoming in sharing this with their users and contacted us directly, I mean, it's not like they don't spam my email with PSN crap every other day.
