The 10000 year clock

I just came across this, I thought it was very cool.
We don't tend to think in long time scales these days. This is very refreshing, in a way.
The Long Now foundation is building a giant mechanical clock, inside a mountain, that can go 10000 years without a human winding it, and still keep time.

Do what the German Afrika Korps. did with part of the sahara and just booby trap the fuck out of it with mines within a 10mile radius in every direction.

At least when the human population is pushed to the brink of extinction by famine and aliens and everything turns into a futuristic nightmare like Escape From LA with punks running the streets. The remaining humans or aliens (whoever the dominant species is at the time) can turn it into a sick macabre gameshow where a human or a team of humans must traverse the minefield in a bid to get to the clock and wind it up!
