I've seen a picture of a bandit being decapitated.
How can you decapitate someone?
Is it enough to use a sword?

You need to use a melee weapon (think it has to be an axe or a sword, though maybe with maces, I hope not though). And you need to be at I think 50 weapon skill, or maybe it's 70. Once you are at that skill you can invest in a talent that lets you decapitate.

yeah archery gets overpowered fast though. soon enough you will sneak kill giants in a few shots, and never be seen. and i installed a mod as the drain was just waayyy too fast. unreasonable imo.

I did find out some info about the new "auto-aim" system they're using that I didn't know about. You can disable it with a couple of .ini entries. I may try that tonite. I almost always play a ranged of some sort, and I've been fighting and fighting to get the stupid arrows where I want them, hopefully turning that off will fix it for me.

Is it enough to use a sword?

it'd have to be in those action kill shots, like vats shots from fallout - the actual engine doesn't allow dismembering.

You need to use a melee weapon (think it has to be an axe or a sword, though maybe with maces, I hope not though). And you need to be at I think 50 weapon skill, or maybe it's 70. Once you are at that skill you can invest in a talent that lets you decapitate.

Any weapon, including Maces can be used to decapitate someone. It is automatic with the "kill shot" animation with a standard strike. The "kill shot" does not work with heavy attacks and is randoms sorta. If you are pressing 'a' or 'd' and sidestepping while attacking it will more than double the likelyhood you get the decap animation.

Maces are funny because you either just swat their head off their shoulders or it does the throat slit one which looks stupid.

On a side note, I have been doing that since I had "Fighting Stance" on the One-Handed skill tree so I think it starts at around 25 or 30 for one-handed. Works for two-handed as well, but with their tree.

i've had a few shots where there's no way it should have missed but did. i should say, a few times where 10 shots in a row go right through someone, but i move a centimeter to the left or right and it works fine. the clipping seems to be off on walls/doors, as you can clearly see someone and have a clear shot but it goes into an invisible wall.

that being said though, it's only been a few times, for the most part archery has been way easy. i'm in the habit of sneak-shotting now and so i have to remind myself to use and level magic/one handed weapons instead.

Hey I'm playing on the 360 here, waiting on my pc copy to be delivered (couldn't be sure you could run the game without steam, so I ordered it now that someone discovered the exploit).

Now, not trolling here. But I noticed you guys have spent (some of you) hours tweaking the game, changing settings and hunting down bugs. I also noticed that *blasphemy*, the posted screenshots don't look any better to me. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places, or my eyes are bad. But they look the same as what I am getting out of my console.
I also haven't experienced any bugs. 50 hours in, no bugs/glitches (Enough time to beat any other game really, some of them twice). I also don't have to configure anything.

Just putting it out there, that from the standpoint of shear playability, the console beats the PC with Skyrim. The more I hear about these bugs, I actually regret ordering a copy for the computer. I am not looking forward to trying to get the same smooth and pretty gameplay out of a computer as I get, default, out of the console.

I think that the game must have been designed console-first, because this is the first time I have seen a bethesda game not look better on the computer. I think that the only way to push the game above console quality graphics is going to be with texture and model replacements.

I am starting to see why some people advocate consoles. If every game was made this way, I might just switch over.

Best I've done, is run it from the executable directly... anything else out there that will let me bring up the damn launcher without steam?

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

That's because he IS an important guy.

So you sided with the Stormcloaks then? He's supposed to be the new Jarl of Whiterun. Eorlund mentions that his brother is the Jarl of Whiterun now after the battle has occurred.

I like the slow-motion kills for dual-wielding swords. Thrust the two swords through the body and end up carrying it and throwing it away.

oh that's cool, the difficulty controls ai now? harder difficulty means they will think to look in the direction the arrow came from when they are hit, and not just say "must've imagined it" and walk away?
and yes, i know your point is to simply make their health more or my damage less. wow , am i glad i have someone with such original ideas lending their aid. ;) really , that's beside the point. thanks anyway though.

Yeah this has happened to me too, most often when shooting closely past a corner. Fortunately, I am in the habit of saving right before a sneak kill attempt anyway.

By the way, I'm not going to go so far as to say I've been playing too much of this game but it is invading my dreams! :)

My archery and sneak are both 65 (ok 65/63), and I don't have the problem you have. So I assumed the problem was difficulty related. I'm sorry your game is not functioning well.

I have come across a bug where the movable pillars were not moveable when they were supposed to be.
The time the pillars were not movable, a book which a dead character was supposed to be holding in it's inventory somehow ended up on a throne instead.

Unmovable pillars and unsearchable corpse can be fixed by quicksave and reload.

They are right outside the larger cities, often by the stables. A carriage and a horse.

Um, perhaps you've been lucky or soemthing. When my crosshair is like an inch past the edge of a wall and my arrow still hits said wall (based on the sound) and falls to the ground I don't think that's low archery or sneak skill-related. That's not how the game is supposed to work in my experience (though I am spending much more time with bows in this game than in the past). Once trying to hit a vampire straight down a cave tunnel my arrows were hitting some invisible wall or something. Really could not figure out what the game thought was in the way and at the time wondered if it was a protective spell or something like that.

That goes without saying, yes?

Well, that would be a very expensive carriage if there's no horse but you can still use it...:p

Doing that house burned down and mother and daughter died during the fire quest at 1:20am in the morning...what was I thinking?

Well I didn't really know that that's what would happen during my "investigation" anyway. :p

my archery is 81 and my sneak 93,and i'm not sure what exactly you're referring to now. to be honest i think i totally confused the situation as ai being dumb has more to do with high sneak than archery.

Turn the difficulty up. Or put down the bow, and pick up a less powerful one.

If every game was made this way, I might just switch over.

yeah it doesnt look horrible on the console, i havent had my game crash once and havent encoutnered bugs but ive added better textures, better shaders, high res items, high res armor, high res clothes, and when i see the console versoin it looks like absolute crap to me, now if thats what you feel is good, you have the right to that opinion, but im sorry it is in no way better. and and high res dragon textuires, high res skin textures, better eyes, better clouds, better water, High res ground textures, OH MAN so beatifull. Dont forget about draw distance where you can see farther then 40 feet in front of you, High res mountain! so beatifull...yeah but your right the console does look bettter (sarcasm)
