When a 32-bit application is Large Address Aware, it can access up to 4 GiB on x64 operating systems and up to 3 GiB on x86.

the larger that number the worse shadows up close will get, lower then number for better shadows,

in all honesty tho dont expect miracles, Gamebryo / Net Immerse / Creation Engine has some of the worst shadow programing of any modern game engine, even Call of Duty based on Id Tech 3 is superior lol.

my game wont run period without LAA enabled

do to the large number of tweaks the game needs more then 2gb of data allocated.

example

Skyrim might only use 1200mb of ram but the allocated ram amount is around 1950mb, at which point it tends to crash, with LAA thats avoided, well with my tweaks and settings my game cant even finish loading a save file period without crashing nor can i start a new game,

ive resorted to using the older EXE with LAA patch and everythings fine and dandy.

im using mods but most of my edits are to the game engines configuration files

i can essentially see 1 city from the other city and you can make out the shape of the walls etc. so to speak performance suffers greatly, but i have an extreme draw distance,

now if bethesda would fix there shitty shadows im pretty sure skyrim would be one of the best looking games period, sadly there crappy shadows all but ruin it for close up shots. :shadedshu

LAA, I performed this mod and it helped a lot. Don't know why companies don't make this automatic. It's nuts that we have to mod this. It's to the companies benefit that they auto enable this.

well the reason its not on by default is because Skyrim is basically running on the same game engine as Morrowind, from 2003 8 year old game engine it gets Direct X updates but thats about it, essentially coding the way there games are build how quests work how items textures meshes work all the same never changed from morrowind all the way to Skyrim

thats why its not LAA by default that and there to lazy to check the LAA flag themselves,

Nope, the LAA patch applied to the 1.2 Launcher doesn't work. There is a DL for the 1.1 launcher now up on SkyrimNexus, though I'm going to just try the LAA fix thats been posted on TPU.

Seems the TPU way mentioned before is the same way, guess going back to 1.1 launcher.

screw that patch, then. I'll wait til a GOOD one, that ignores Steam, comes out.


On a related note, has anyone gotten a different way to run Skyrim, bypassing Steam, and potentially also allowing me to bring the Launcher up without steam? The best I've got, is to run the executable directly.

well been tweaking further,

bethesda and AMD need to get there act together,

maximum possible stable settings ive used, i get around 22fps avg outside single gpu... with 1200mb vram usage,

the kicker is my gpu is only at 65% load single gpu....... so the game is sitting there doing fuck all when theres still 35% more power untapped, that would bring me up to 27fps avg give or take lowest ive seen frame rate drop with my current tweaks is 20. so again further optimizations and driver improvements would help alot in this regard. with Xfire working properly i should see 60fps avg 40s for minimum with my settings.

Wondering if other people can give me their FPS results. Go to Dragonsreach, turn around and look out the Archway at Whiterun. Settings don't matter, I'm just curious if it's everyone seeing a massive FPS hit or just me. Even low settings that cuts me down 25 fps, then I start running through the town and my FPS goes back up.

It's most likely to do with the game and some unoptimized textures, I remember the exact same thing happening in Oblivion where I'd get dips at certain places, most notably outside of sheograth's castle in shivering isle. The obvious fix for me at the time was to turn up my OC on my CPU and it did give a substantial boost but what got rid of those dips completely were the unofficial fan made patches that helped optimize performance by taking out any texture overlapping/corruption etc, so I am guessing it is the same deal for Skyrim.

yea its texture issues, noticed it while tweaking many places have upto 5 textures overlapping at once, and it flickers with certain settings, it needs some work in general and of course using higher res textures, makes hte matter worse in white run.

you have rocks, the roadway, hay and mud / ground textures that actually overlap. to give that blending affect, now do this all over. now imagine insane draw distances lol. its funny to watch really

I went to do a quest with Lydia (the Break of Dawn quest) and it ends with me being teleported outside the dungeon. Problem is, I told Lydia to "stay here" right before the final fight in there, so that she wouldn't get in the way. So I went back in and at the very end I found a door that cannot be opened (needs a key, and actually it opened by magical means the first time, but I can't reuse the same magical implement to open it again). Have I lost my Lydia?

It stands to reason but thought I'd mention that with empty soul gems in their inventory plus a weapon that takes souls your companion can fill soul gems for you. And there is apparently a glitch at present where if they have a number of the same type such as common and take a common soul the entire stack will fill. A cheat of sorts but I might give it a shot idk yet.

Another apparent glitch to be aware of if you drop a whole stack of something and tell them to pick it up via command mode it will only end up as a single item in their inv and the rest are lost to oblivion (Hah!). Not the end of the world due to item codes I guess but still good to know and avoid.

Entertaining and amusing stuff from RPS, per usual. If you don't feel like reading it at least watch the short embedded video; it's an absolute riot! I'm in tears over here!

(Yeah a few times myself I've attempted to use Healing Hands on Lydia (No, I'm not a priest, but I play one in Skyrim!) when she's crouched and accidentally shocked her for the kill instead lol)

no but the aiming can be tricky clock on shit and you will see the binary name for the object show up. keep clicking it trying diffirent areas until the number changes or shows up.
