It does work better on dried paste, and unlike alcohol, it actually works well on those stupid pink pads some heatsinks have under them.

That said, I usually use non-residue electronic contact cleaner (I get mine at the auto parts store), then wipe with alcohol, just in case.

Serious, one sock to remove the paste, the other for TIM cleaner (I use Akasa TIM Clean because it was free).

So this stuff will actually remove that stuff you find on old NB HS's? That dries like melted plastic? Stuff's almost impossible to remove with other cleaners, only choice is to scrape it off.

YOWZA !! Zombie thread resurrection !

This stuff works better and faster than anything else I've tried for removing paste or pads. Period.
I've done many reseats and I'm still on my original two bottles. You don't need a lot.
I bought it on a whim thinking it was just a gimmick and Isopropyl Alcohol or contact cleaner would work just as well. I was wrong.
