Well called my uncle because hes extremely smart in this kinda stuff and he messed around with it for awhile and it came down to the fact that if it were the nvidia drivers my 9800 would be messing up the same way the 550 ti is so he said its the card alone and to replace it and it makes sense so i went with what Jstn7477 said and got the 650 ti

MSI N650TI-1GD5/V1 GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB 128-bit ...

nice card, but i would recommand 2gb ram on the gfx, if u game in 1080p or else u gonna use the 1gb too quickly...

and yes ino that the 2gb version is like 5 bucks more and u get another cooler on the msi card but why not, double up the memory? just me 2cents...

MSI N650-2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 650 2GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Video Card and u also get Free $75 value in-game coupon w/ purchase, limited offer

I honestly would have gone with at least a 650 Ti/Boost if you needed more performance, but the base 650 should be an exact replacement for your 550 Ti.
