I have recently just got a new motherboard, and should be now be able to overclock my cpu to somewhere around 4.0ghz which is my target. Im completely new to overclocking CPUs, and need alot of help with it. MY specs are also updated so what ever you see in my specs section is what i have now.

Your cooler will not handle 4Ghz so don't expect that. As for overclocking it's simple first increase frequency by one multiplier step then test if the CPU is stable and runs at or bellow 65C° if it does increase the multi by 1 more step. If you hit instability increase voltage by 10mv until the instability is no longer there. Do not go over 1.5V.

How exactly do I do that through bios, what settings do I play with? I don't see any multiplier option In the bios

WOOO 1100T OC TIME. God I loved those chips.
I got mine to 4.2Ghz on 1.425V. You should have a base clock and a multi to play with in your BIOS. I did all mine with an Asus EVO M4 back in the day.

You might be able to squeeze in a 3.8Ghz on that cooler, depending on how leaky your chip is.

Set your turbo to disabled and there should be a setting to change your AI Tweak settings to manual. Keep everything on Auto, except BaseClock, Multiplier and VCore. Maybe change LLC(loadlinecalibration) to something high too.

EDIT: And disable cool and quiet, nobody needs that crap for what we're doing.

Don't use high or higher settings on ASUS boards unless you know exactly what you are doing. High introduce at 15mv boost at idle and a 30mv. Higher settings boost voltage even further with ultra causing a 100mv voltage increase when you apply load.

I've always used a LLC of High on my Asus boards, from the old AM3 boards to the latest Sabertooth since the 965, 1050t all the way through to the 8350 (on a V Formula).
Come to think of it I've always used Asus for AMD and MSI for Intel, without actually realising...

Well high is OK most of the time but it's good to know that it will cause a voltage boost so if your pushing borderline safe voltages you don't want to use it since it will run at 30mv more than what you set.

Maybe OP should try pushing his core without increasing any voltages? He might net a surprising overclock!

i edited my specs, the cpu cooler was kinda wrong. I've got the hyper 212 EVO coolermaster. Is it still nto good enough for 4.0ghz?

EDIT: im now running at 3.7ghz ran prime 95 for 20min and cpu did not go any higher than 50 degreese. multiplier at 18.5, base clock at 200, cpu manual voltage at 1.4500V

1.45v for 3.7Ghz is a little high, that would make me uncomfortable.

And when monitoring temperatures, using CPUID i should be keep an eye on the core temperatures of the cpu right not the CPU temperature?

EDIT: sorry it was at 1.4V

CPU ID or HWInfo should work in either case, I tend to use HWInfo, but not for any particular reason. The CM 212 EVO is a very good budget cooler, but I'd probably stop OC'ing at 4Ghz. You might be able to get 3.8 or more on 1.4v. See how far you can push your multiplier before P95 starts crashing on 1.4v.

Try 19, then 19.5 and so on until you start getting lockups or freezes.

A little longer would be ideal, ideally hours. You can sometimes get away with running P95 for 30mins at a time until you're happy, then as a final test leave the PC running P95 for a few hours to ensure it's stable.

i find occt monitors temperature more accuratly than most other apps..
everest and speed fan will report a core at 25c and occt will report it at 35c
to test which one was most accurate, i dissabled occt's shut off at temperature feature and ran a stress test.
sure enough speed fan and everest said temps were 9c in the safe zone. occt said it was 1c over safe limit. and the system BSOD.

that to me just confirmed that occt was more accurate so i changed the offset on speed fan to +10 and just stoped using everest because it no longer detects my gpu sensors any way.

morral of the story?
not all temp monitoring apps are equal and you need to make sure that they are reporting the correct temperatures. if in doubt trust the one with the higest reading. or you can do what i did and test it till it errors out due to heat. but i would not recommend that.

Yeah 1.45 is usually the 4Ghz requirement, not many people can touch 4Ghz with less besides one guy on OCN who got it at 1.44v

Don't bite off more than you can chew. It's your first time OC'ing the poor chip. Take it slow and work back down, see what you can achieve on 1.4v, try for 3.8Ghz and we can tweak from there.

There are of course multiple extra options for specific tweaking that we can do for extra little bits of stability, but we want a good, solid stable baseline to work up from.

Even though I'm pretty sure I set voltage to 1.4, Cpuid is showing it hitting up to 1.45
Cpu vcore is reaching 1.45
