Considering the 980/970 outpace the titan and the 290X out paced the first titan at less price. Id drop it off. I apologize if you felt insulted. Wasnt trying to.

Apart from budget, you have to consider your PSU - is it powerful enough for the best graphics card, or would you have to upgrade?

Well it depends on what your definition is as the "Best for Gaming" as there are a couple of options as to what is the best.

For instance, if you mean the best single card you could buy for gaming from NVidia, technically the best they offer right now is the GTX Titan-Z because its a dual GPU card and has two Titan Black chips on board.

If you just mean the absolute best single GPU NVidia card for gaming at the moment, that's the GTX 980

If you mean the best card for gaming without breaking the bank it would probably be the GTX 970.

I would never recommend it to anyone either as there are so many alternative solutions that are much better including buying 3 GTX 980's currently, I could think of probably 6 scenarios of top components I would take before the Titan-Z was ever considered. :laugh:

If you want to enjoy it for years to come, I suggest waiting for '7'/8GB 9xx models. You know you want 'dem high-rez textures and/or better scaling potential.

Price will inevitably go down on 980/970 when (a) consumer model(s) GM200 comes about...just like every other overpriced mid-range nvidia card that is flaunted as high-end for ~6-12 months (GF104, GK104, now GM204) before being relegated to it's proper place around $100 cheaper with/without a new selling point (last gen was higher voltage/power/clock allowance for 770 vs 680, this gen may 8GB vs 4GB). In this case that product is GTX980.

At that point, which will probably be fairly soon (Give a little time for a Titan release in March/April, AMD to release 380x at some point after that, and then nvidia to respond with such products) a single GM200 or 8GB GM204 (in or out of sli) will probably be the way to go. IMO, it's worth waiting for. It used to be buffer was a bs selling point...with these current consoles and their respective pc counterparts, as well as the era of higher rez when not using all that memory for textures at a lower resolution, it really isn't.
