Catalyst 11.8 Preview driver

So AMD decided to release a preview of the 11.8 driver for Win 7 64. Info in the link, no need to install 11.7 to install these.

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...erPreview.aspx

EDIT: Yes I saw this linked in the main 11.7 thread, but figured its own wouldn't hurt, mods, if you feel so inclined, close it.

I like it for sure, +20 point mark, over the 11.7 cat...

I for one especially like that its Win7 x64 only. Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic or anything.

It hopefully makes all the Luddites think twice about their ignorant choice in racehorse, and while I'm fully aware a GPU driver has next to no effect on changing social policy, the sooner we get off 32bit OSes, the better.

Hey, i'll never complain over any kind of free performance boost. Even if it's just "up to".
As for the 64bit only thing, i'm guessing it has something to do with memory mapping capabilities of the 64bit OS and so on which cannot be made on 32bit system.
64bit systems are priority for gaming anyway these days so i don't see anything bad with that really.

I'm just making sure you have realistic expectations so you aren't disappointed, that's all

I'm happy DX11 games are being tweaked

I wonder if that means that BC2 doesn't just crash for me when I turn on MLAA? That right there would probably be 30% improvement for me.

It is there, you just did not get to see the 30%, as, the improvement went by so fast... just before the crash!

I'll take the 10% in Crysis and 8% in Fear 3; 'cause, just me personally, I don't like the MLAA visual tweak. It just looks, sorta, off to me.

Maybe it's just me but...does anyone elses Driver Packaging Version, under the Software section of the CCC read:

"Driver Packaging Version 8.88.3-110711a-122259E-VisionTek"

VisionTek? What?

Yup mine shows the same. I really cant complain about this driver. It almost feels perfect, but I use that term loosely

There is something strange with MLAA performance boost. Yes it faster than 11.6 but for only first 10 minutes. When i start playing Borderlands i'm getting 67-75 fps, after ~10 min only 52-59. Anyone else getting this?

I suppose I could look into that for you as I've been playing Borderlands regularly with friends recently, as long as you don't mind that A) I'm not sure how well XFired 5850s with CAPs will do reproducing an issue seen on a solo 6950 (and a 1GB version of it at that) and B) I've been getting so much screen tearing, I've modded my INI file to activate VSync.

While of course I'll de-mod and deactivate VSync to try and reproduce your issue, without you elaborating on how you knew your FPS within Borderlands, I probably won't notice the time sensitive drop in performance casually through all the screen tearing I'll probably see, if my GPUs will even produce a performance drop in such a graphically "easy" environment.
