Nah, don't worry about this at all. Turns out that at least some of the trouble I was having were due to other issues, see my quote below. My thread is out of date now anyway.

When you get your 980, just install the latest 353.38 and you'll be fine. :)

I saw your explanation but interestingly enough, 353.38 is not listed on their website. Searching for 980, Win 7 64 yields 353.30 as the highest drivers. I thought I saw a thread previously that they were buried in a customer service thread somewhere. I wasn't really paying attention because I planned on buying the Fury but I wasn't really impressed.

Geez, I think I am beginning to regret my 980 purchase before it even gets delivered. First nvidia card since my gts 250, maybe now wasn't a good time to switch. I downloaded 347.88 - so it looks like I will run that one.
i am not regreting any second my 980 tho :D (albeit the fact that i didn't purchase it ... ) over my 290

nope just install the 347.88 and you'll be fine ... since for me even the 353.38 gave the same issue than before the "hotfix" (nvidia driver superiority : HUGE CLICHÉ )

Eek sorry, that's the hotfix driver I'm running. 353.30 is the current WHQL driver and I reckon it'll still work ok for you anyway.

Note that I wasn't having a problem before I installed the hotfix driver. Just thought I'd try it and see how it goes. It's all been glitch free for me.

but you don't have a 980 :D so you can't relate to the anguish @moproblems99 has ...

on the contrary i have a 980 and the 353.30 or .38 Hotfix gave the same issues in stability, only reverting to 347.88 solved the problem, and for some crash CPU PhysX does the trick ;)

latest driver from nvidia : 347.88 (well with my 290 even the lastest driver gave me good result ... so in the end in drivers seems that AMD does it better than nvidia o_O )

No anguish yet, I haven't even gotten it :)

Just trying to start out right from day one. I found .38 on the customer support site. If .38 doesn't work I will revert. My main trepidation for switching over is that I am so comfortable with Catalyst, I know where everything is. Now I am going to have to start over. Geforce experience...blah, blah, blah - I think I will skip installing that and only install the base control panel. I always avoided installing Afterburner, etc since I had a problem with it crashing BF3. But I may start using it since I don't really know what to expect with nv.

yes anguish ... a anguish is anticipating a problem with anxiety for me xD so ... even you still not have it you fear the result :D

and trust me the .38 did not work for my 980, only the 347.88 (just like a vast majority who use that driver )

as for Geforce experience ... well i only used it to enable gamestream over my Shield Tablet and DSR 1440p'ish resolution for FFXIVHW (it's way under AMD Gaming Evolved app ... for game optimization ... only a few on my numerous games were recognized where all of them got a profile on Raptr AGEA, tho i didn't try Shadowplay, to compare with AMD DVR )

i use Afterburner : never got a crash on any card i used with and BF3 or any other games ... :D

remember: now you deal with Nvidia not AMD, they have a higher update rate of the driver but only 1 good driver at the present moment. (i have a long history with both GPU brand :D )

Damn, sounds like a headache. :ohwell: Hope the next WHQL driver fixes all this.

Ironically, me having the previous generation GPU doesn't have these problems in this instance, when it's usually the other way round.

it was ... until @rtwjunkie pointed me to the 347.88

so do i ... but for the moment everything work fine so i am happy with my shiny 980, nothing to complain on Nvidia ... as i never had any complaint for AMD... both brand satisfy me (am i over-positive? )

Steady now, fanboying over one enemy is bad enough, but both is highly dangerous, a bit like protonium. :p

Go on, look up that word. It's all very nerdy, just the way we like it. ;)

protonium. :p
Proton anti-proton pair?

Steady now, fanboying over one enemy is bad enough, but both is highly dangerous, a bit like protonium. :p
wait WHAT! i am the definition of antifanboyisme ... i defend both brand with the same zeal .... because they are toe to toe and any one who say "hu that brand destroy that one in benchmark" just think 1 to 10% is a "Valles Marineris" alike gape. (geekish enough?)
aside from proprietary tech ... PhysX Cuda ... pfeh :p i am more a open source/ended defender tho  ...

for the rest i go were the price is nice, AND FREAKING NO Nvidia is not in that category ... but AMD did not do any better with Fury/Fury X, tho while AMD card like the 290/290X can be found for cheap on 2nd hand market (and not only mining card luckily .... cryptocurrency ... another thing that should die ... not the thing itself but the mean to acquire them... well ... it's dead, for non industrial miner ahahahaha :ohwell:) and 2nd hand nvidia ... well in Switzterland we still have dreamer who try to sell a 680 to a price close to a 970 and the 780/780Ti at a 980 price (not mentioning Titan/Titan Black owner still trying to sell them at the full retail price after ~5-6 months of use...)

so ... why did i got a 980 and got rid of my trusty 290 (well the price was nice ... or so, should i say ...)

(yep i did not took you seriously ... but i got serious as i wrote that post ... sorry ... )

Indeed, I was only messing with you, glad you realized it. :) Perhaps I should have added "j/k" at the end of it to remove any potential ambiguity.

Being a fanboy of any company is idiotic, as we know. It just amounts to making excuses for them for poor performance.

Anyway, here's the obligatory Wikipedia explanation for protonium for anyone who wants to check it out. Basically it's the chemical bonding of a particle and its antimatter counterpart. And you guessed it, it goes bang in nanoseconds!

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o

And you guessed it, it goes bang in nanoseconds!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protonium
ah... proton anti-proton pair indeed ... since (i knew already) that a onium/onia is a bound state of a particle and its antiparticle and Prot would obviously relate to Proton o_O
(i might be a lifeguard but ... oh well whatever ahah ;) )

oh no need for j/k as i said my answer was not serious ... but got serious once i got to the price explanation ahahah ...

Hi guys,

Nothing has changed, the 353.62 is still freezing my GTX 650, back again to the 350.12...

This TDR issue has something to do with the NVIDIA voltage/clock scaling?

How do I know this? My card was modded to run at full clocks/voltage all the time (for experimental purposes mind you). It has TDRs galore with newer drivers, but not one for 2 days straight since I modded it.

Hmmm....

I was having screen blackouts with every version beyond 350.12, with EVGA Precision on W7 builds.

I removed EVGA Precision and have had no issues since. The latest 5.3.6 was really bad.
