I were expecting much more from this card, I thought it was at least as fast as the HD 4870 X2, like it was with HD 4870 x HD 3870 X2.

Of course it was an improvement in power, but you must remember that it is 40nm vs. 55nm, unlike HD 4870, that was 55nm x 55nm

Well, there must be something I'm missing, look, at the HD 4870, ATI more than doubled the specs (including bandwidht), a it was like 60% faster than a HD 3870.
Now, Ati double the spec again, and again, it is 60~70% faster. Can't it be the architeture that doesn't increase the performance linearly? Or it could be drivers, or even both of them

remember tom`s used a beta cat driver.. and with that the 5870 had a nice performance even before the card hits the marked..

That may hold true, but what i pointing out is that i dont see a problem with performance when a single GPU card can perform on par with a dual GPU card.

While the architecture maybe similar to the 4 series, its not the same. The 4 series drivers and very mature and have gone through 1+ yr of revisions. The 5 series is just starting. Things will improve. Look at Crysis, you get a 44% increase when going crossfire on 5870s. The power is there, the drivers just need some work.

You have to keep in mind that when it comes to reviews, everyone runs to the benchs and look for certain games. These are the ones that got the most amount of time while others still have work needed.

L4D is now cpu limited with an i7 and crossfire 5870 with 8xAA!

also GTA4 looks like cpu limited at CF 64.x fps at all 3 tested resolutions ,btw gta4 support AA or not ?Tom did not tested with AA.
5870CF 1920*1200 giving better fps (154.3 ) than 1680*1050 (152.8) at resident evil 5
Ill wait TPU benchs with Oced i7 ,Cpu at test setup is 3.8Ghz i7 correct?

Good saying but it's a very large and extensive review. It not just a peak at all. More like doggy style than lifting a shirt.

it's an i7 975 @ 4.0Ghz which means there is no GPU bottleneck. Stop looking for excuses when the card is performing perfectly fine. It's doing fine but it's not groundbreaking. Single GPU doing what the dual GPUs can do in most cases while consuming less power. That's something! I can tell some people are disappointed like I am

Other reviews with cpus clocked to 3.0GHz show no performance difference than the one done by Tom's. All procs were i7s from 920s to 975s. CPU is not restricting the gpu in any way.

Oh! A little cheaper than rumored.

Double trouble. Sapphire did this last year with the 4870s. The price will rise after all of these sell out. Then there will be a $20 margin the cards will fight for until the price drops to crap.
