ATiTool 0.26 + X1950GT = black screen?....

When I try to overclock my Sapphire X1950GT with ATiTool 0.26 I get a black screen that I can only get rid of by reseting the PC???

Any advice guys?

Yeah get .27 b1, it's compatable with the x1950 series, and go into settings and check:
Use Driver Level Overclocking

If you don't do this, every time you OC you'll get black screen w/x1950 series..I have the x1950pro, dealt with same issue when I didn't know about it at first.

I just tried this with my new x1950 GT and it DID black screen with v.26, but when trying to determine max GPU speed v.27 says my VRAM is OC'd, even though it's not, then gives these weird green lines and I can't see anything. Windows still works, but I can't see anything. Is this a common problem?

Well, you're best off not using the Find Max option with the x1950 series as they increase in Multi-MHZ increments instead of Single-MHZ increments, this can cause glitches.

Also NFITCH1, please fill out your System Spec's in UserCP. Give us some info on your card, OS, Driver Version, etc. Another way to verify your GPU/vMem speed is a different utility, such as ATI Tray Tools, CCC itself under the Overdrive option, Everest Home Edition, etc. The green lines are artifacting from the program trying to find max and causing vpu errors on the x1950 and the drivers. Try increasing the GPU/Mem speed independently and manually. My x1950pro for instance increases in steps of approx 5-7MHZ.

Give those a shot and check back, we'll get ya oc'd. Also feel free to check out the link in my sig, has lots of info, and some good links that could help you find some good utilities, tips, etc.

I figured as much. But you did say not to use the "Find Max" buttons. Those are pretty annoying. I'm running XP Pro. As for drivers I'm using the latest off ATI's site as of, I guess, June 18th.

CCC is reporting that the card is running at 55C, which I don't like. I certainly don't want this to get to 60. Is there anything I can do to the heat sink on the card to help it run cooler?

that temp isnt eally that bad for a 1950....check out the 1950 clubhouse for every variety of cooler and results you can ever want! If i remember right the max on that GPU is like 70-75 .

I think the latest is 7.5 CCC which was I think June 18th. But try manually setting the MHZ. If you're concnerned about temps, then consider an aftermarket cooler. And definately check out the x1950/HD 2900 Clubhouse and the x1950 Bios thread's, both are huge, informative, and helpful, I learned much from both. 55C is okay for stock cooling though, and I think that GPU is good for 80 or 90C, but it's not recommended of course.

Also I stand corrected on the drivers...that wouldn't make sense, as 7.6 would be the June release (the second number relates to month, the first is the last number in the year, ie 2007). 7.5's the most recent were released on 5/31/07.

Well it worked, thanks for the info I manually overclocked it to the same speed as an X1950Pro, but Im sure it would go some more lol......I may have a go later

Cheers m8 When it came to building my new system, I was going to go for the X1950Pro or GT, but when I was told that they were basically identical I thought I would save £20 by purchasing the X1950GT and just overclocking it to the same speed as the Pro

I will try to increase the speeds leter today and let you know how I get one m8

The core should max out at around 621-635, that's the general consensus for these cores. But I also heard that most GTs can't go as far as PROs with higher voltages, and their memory is generally worse.

Hookey, you should definately consider some cooling for that sucker as I'm sure she'll be runnin toasty. And definately keep me posted! My Pro is good for 621/770 stable...I have hit 628/783, but it doesn't last long. I'm curious to see how well your GT does!

I was thinking the same thing, whats a good aftermarket cooler for the X1950GT/Pro, is it the Accellero? (or something like that LOL)

I may get one when I get a new heatsink & fan for my CPU

There's the Accellero X2 which I have on my x1950pro, it works very well. There's a couple of others also, Zalman VF900 and something else...I'm sure someone else can help refresh my memory!
