That's good, now you know your memory is functioning perfectly. One thing off the list.

Try verifying the game's files. Could be something is corrupted or something wrong with the SSD the game is installed to. There's also a small possibility some other program you have installed is interacting with steam negatively.

Do other games you have crash or is it just this one? If so, is there any kind of pattern? ie. only steam games are crashing

GoG has had issues with the game downloading and installing for some people - this was when the game was launched, I'm not sure if they've been all hammered out.

My brother had issues getting the game to download and install off GoG. He had found a few posts on the GoG forums about possible solutions and thankfully one worked for him. He hasn't had any issues since then with any updates for the game, but that first day we wanted to play it took him almost an hour to get things figured out to finish downloading and installing the game.

GoG isn't without its issues, but it's still my go to for games since I can download the files to my side, keep them and install the game anytime I want and I also don't need an online connection through a DRM digital platform that requires the game to talk to so it runs - such as Steam or Uplay or Origins and so on.

Hopefully that fixed the issue. You don't need triple buffering enabled with G-Sync anyways. G-Sync already ensures you are getting as smooth a presentation as your PC can provide by ensuring the latest frame is always displayed each monitor refresh.

You can try to delete the game's settings at AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3 (you are looking for the graphics settings file). Should restore the game to default settings.

bummer did not work can't even start the game it crashes with a hard crash right away I'm just going to chock it up to I waisted 60 bucks and can't even get my money back this is unethical

here is a thread on redit about bg3 crashing
Computer Crashing & Freezing Up : BaldursGate3 (reddit.com)
I tried everything nothing works I'm sad

You update the BIOS on your MB?

I remember when I got my 5900x the AGESA version wasn't optimal for my CPU. Windows and normal day stuff worked fine, but when I launched games they would crash on me, sometimes to the desktop and other times system BSOD. Thankfully right at that time I got my 5900x a new AGESA was released, so I updated the BIOS and all my crashing issues vanished.
I looked on the Asus website and found a new bios I'll give it a try it's 4702 right now I'm on 4602 this new bios just came out everyone cross your fingers

Are you getting the same graphics driver issue as the person in the thread? If so you could try a different driver version to see if it has any impact.

Just as I wanted to take BG3 for another spin with an unlocked level cap (20) and 5e Spells mods... BG3Script Extender seems to have died for everyone

Curious question here for everyone that's playing BG3.

How many of you have to wait a very long time for the game to load past the initial loading screen before you get to the main menu?
  • For me it can take upwards of 6 minutes and 30 seconds (yes, I timed it). Sometimes it's as quick as [pause for affect] 3 minutes!

Game is installed on my 970 Evo SSD. Game is updated and verified on GoG. Other system specs I have listed in my profile. I don't have any mods installed for the game. I play the game on DX11, not on Vulkan because when I originally tried to play the game on Vulkan I had it crash on me a couple of times. No crashes with DX11.

When I first installed the game it gave me a popup about how my GPU driver isn't current and the game behaved somewhat similarly, taking maybe 90-120 seconds to load into the main menu. It wasn't a big deal, but a bit annoying. I eventually updated my driver and the game went from almost 2 minutes to load in to maybe 20 seconds and that's where it stayed until 2 patches ago. Since then it's been a pain in the ass waiting for the main menu to load up.

Once I get to the main menu the game is snappy, only takes 10-15 seconds to load up a saved game. It's just that initial wait that's irritating.

I read that GoG overlay can cause slow load in times, I've disabled it, but it made no impact. I've read that it's the shader cache that's rebuilding and folks have reported issues under DX11 and Vulkan. Anyone here having the same issue or know of a resolution?

Nope. 60 seconds, sure. Several minutes never. I also run the game off SSD and through gog.

Yep, quoting myself for others to see my issue and my resolution in one post:

I always have Steam and GoG Galaxy running. I disabled the overlay option on GoG Galaxy, but didn't think about disabling the game overlay in Steam. Once I disable the game overlay in Steam and made sure it was still disabled for GoG Galaxy, the game took about 18 seconds to load up and get to the main menu.

For some reason the game really dislikes the game overlay for both Steam and GoG Galaxy.

Sounds like something with your setup, I never had the game pull a bluescreen on me.

What api are you running it on? Vulkan or DX11? Tried running both?

no other game crashes or no app crashes just BG3 i watched a video about gsync being on triple buffering and he switched it to double and had no more crashes
Disable all that jazz. No Gsync, no tweaks, no nothing. Install your stuff, run the game and run all hardware stock. Remove any and all USB devices apart from your mouse and kb from the USB ports too.

I'm not joking - if you want to troubleshoot, make a clean slate and start excluding whatever you still have that isn't stock and as bare bones as you can possibly run the game and your rig. GPU should be using the recommended game settings (by game auto detect) and nothing else, too. If you use regular Vsync in this setup, triple buffering is the most logical setting to use. Alternatively, just run with a framerate cap.

You could also check SMART data on your storage devices. Storage fails can bluescreen you. A faulty SATA cable can bluescreen you too. BG3 juggles a lot of data around, so this is definitely something to check.

thanks for the input I'll try to see how it goes and get back to you
I gave it a try and disconnected all USBs except the mouse and keyboard even disconnected my second monitor then went into the bios and put the RAM on auto it went from 3200 to 2133 was able to play now I'm connecting all USBs. has anyone played with two monitors connected?
well after I connected everything 5 minutes into the game it crashed so it's something that is connected I have a feeling it's the second monitor

it's not the monitor the game crashed without it so I disconnected my USB Mic and was able to get into the game there will be more testing let me know of any new ideas thank you

I'm able to play BG3 now so it was the mic then I plugged the mic into the front USB 2 plug and the game works without crashing I think there was too much on the USB 3 chip
