Bottlenecked?

Any chances my processor is the culprit of bottlenecking?

Currently running on 1920X1200 resolution with a

4830 @ 750/1005 mhz

Processor is a 6420 @ 2.13Ghz clocked to 3.2Ghz

When the 5870 comes out, getting it seems to be my second option due to my processor. True?

At that res. you shouldnt be getting any bottle neck with that card.
Any card much higher will start to cause one though.

Hm so upgrading to a 5870 is not a bad choice? If that's what you meant

If you run it at that res. on high settings you may be alright but you will be getting close if not bottle necking with the 5870.

Yeah, with that high of a res wouldn't look @ your proc at all.

Hmm i usually go to the max settings of anything i can for games. Unless some games really require mad hungry power cards, which i'll tone down the AA and AF. E.g Crysis.

So, getting a 5870 wouldn't pose me much of a bottleneck eh?

No, probably not. Maybe a bit, but not a noticeable amount.

Depending, what's the max resolution in the hypothetical scenario?

you should be able to get at least 3.8Ghz out of your processor.

also if you did that it would also boost performance a fair bit. not just with graphics alone

I game at 2048x1536 on a hd4850 512mb ! I found with good bit of overclocking to the cpu & gpu i can run cod4 with max settings & still have good frame rates. Have to keep AA off to keep fps good though. Im not really bothered about AA having to be off as running cod:mw or cod:waw at 2048x1536 or 3.15 megapixel on a 21" crt you can hardly see jaggers anyway.

Mind you Crysis is a slide show at that res on my single hd4850

The new E6300 is alot cheaper than an E8400. & the E6300 oc's to 4.0ghz easy.

Performance drops by almost 20 fps at that resolution. If you want to play at that res, you will need a better performing gpu.

the better the cpu, the better the scores, up to a point. The cpu pushes your card to an extent. You don't need i7 for your card, but you would ceirtanly get better scores with it.

If you're going to spend money skip the e5x and e6x, go up to an e7300 or 7400 if you wish to be inexpensive.

Even at that though, just as an example, let's say Athlon 6000+ w/ HD5870 gets you 45fps avg max'd in XXX game @ 1920x1200, but with X2 550 w/HD5870 gets you 52fps avg. You would spend the extra $100 for 7fps?
