Benchmark Scores How much does Mark weigh?
CPU: Intel from 80's to 2001, AMD from 2001-current, Intel from 2007-current. I ran away from Netburst. Most bang-for-buck rigs I build for people today are AMD. Only reason my main rig is Intel is that AMD didn't have a decent quad in mid-2007 and this PC still does almost anything I ask it to effortlessly.

GPU: <2000 various, but mainly ATi for PC gaming since 2001. I've bought various <GT200 nV cards over the years, still have a trusty PCI MX420 for PC diagnostic services. I'm currently eying a GT240 for PhysX, folding, and Hackintosh duty. Alllmost bought a 470 or 480 lol

I got intel because it was cheaper than AMD (for me). :p

I went from a PCI Radeon 9250 256mb to an X1800XT 256mb to an 8800GTX 768mb (which I loved so much) and then a 4870 (which I don't love as much). Once I start this new job it's i7 and dual 470s, baby. :)

My very expensive AMD K6-3 was amazing... but it fried itself. I couldnt believe how much money was lost. I was a student at the time. It is the only processor I have had that killed itself. Since this day I never bought AMD again. Once burnt, twice shy.

Tandy? Oh the days when a processor cost less than $10... and THAT was expensive!
didnt Pentium 4 killed it self to?, there was one core that did that
everything can brake, its a matter of life

But I'm not rich and i went with Intel.

Thats fair enough, there will be people that will save there penny's and get the CPU they realy want. Also i do mean around where i live, not the forums lol.

My m8 is a big Intel fan and he has wanted an i7 from day one, but with the cost of the CPU, a good Mobo and of course at least 3GB of DDR3 memory, he just cant afford it, and he is way more well off then iam.

When i build PC's for people in my town none want to spend alot of money anymore (The economy i guess?) no one seems to have the spare $$$ so the only way i can get a good PC for them and within there price range is to go AMD. There might be the odd person that's willing to spend a good amount off $$$ so there for i can go with an i7 system, but that's just not the case, i have yet to see an i7 computer in this town yet. (and there mainly intel systems)

People in this town refuse to spend over $1000 for a complete system, so i don't realy have a choice in the matter :ohwell:

Went from ive went back and forth for a while now. lately (meaning in the past 4 years) I went from an intel Pentium D 805, to a AMD 5600+ BE to an Intel E5200 to an AMD Phenom II 940BE to the Phenom II 965BE to an Intel I7 920.

So i pretty much went back and forth. As of right now my main rig is intel but my HTPC in AMD phenom II, so i try to keep both on hand just in case lol

My main system has been Intel based since my Athlon XP 1700+ days ended. I then went from a 3Ghz P4 to a Q6600, then a E5200, then a Q9650, then an i7 920 and finally this i7 975.

Video card wise, in recent memory my main rig went from a 7800GT to a 8800GTS 640MB, then to a 8800GT, then to 8800GT SLI. After that I had a HD4870X2 which I traded for a GTX285 plus cash because nVidia's support for OpenCL was superior (and still is) over that of ATI. Then I picked up another GTX285 for a multi-GPU setup so I could code, test and run multi-GPU GPGPU code at home rather than drag my ass to the university lab.

I am sticking with nV for the foreseeable future because I much prefer their drivers and support for GPGPU computing.

I have no real brand loyalty (my HTPC is a 720BE, and my second rig runs a pair of HD5670s for GPUs), I choose by the features I need at the time and by price/performance or simply a fancy I have (before someone jumps on my i7 975 purchase, that CPU cost me 75$ or so more than an i7 920 costs over here).

Results to far:

80% of people have changed GPU brands within the last 2 years
60% of people have changed CPU brands within the last 2 years

Interesting, I wouldn't have expected SUCH a high turnover rate. I would also have expected CPU owners to be more brand loyal based on the typical thread we see around here. Perhaps this poll is biased, being answered only by people who have switched.
