can't install a printer

I'm haveing problems installing a printer on my computer. Evey time i try to use the CD they gave me it just says "printer spool service stopped, please try restarting computer and try again". I have tried that(many time) but still no luck. I tried to enable it in services.smc but i get error 1075 saying that the dependancy service doesn't exist or has been marked for deletion... i have no clue of what to do now.
By the way i have a pre-installed version of XP and i don't have money to just go buy a new XP atm

Is the printer hooked up B4 you put the disc in? ........if so unhook it and run disc, my HP likes the disc first, then it tells you when to hook up and restart!

Unplug printer from compy, Clean Printer drivers, reboot, plug in printer, load CD and try again.

You don't need the CD software to use the printer; 99% of the stuff on their is junk. You can get the stripped drivers online.

Have you got tried checking the DEP system?

Go to System Properties>Advanced
Select Performance>Settings
Select Data Execution Prevention
Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select
Click Add
Paste this in to the file name box of the window that opens:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe
Select Open
Select OK when you receive the warning
Select Apply

It's a possibility, though I don't see bleh. It might be wanting UPnP, but that'd be highly suspect. I have that disabled on every machine, security hole no thanks.


Also, do you have a service titled "LexBce Server?" If so, that would need to be running if it's a Lexmark.

What Dependancy error? If it's 1068 then it's RPC.

The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
If you open the event viewer for this problem, you may notice the following log message:

That'l teach me not to read, it is 1075 (DEP) like you said!
causes of 1075,printer or a fax machine adds itself as a Print Spooler dependency during installation.
The printer or the fax machine is then removed or incorrectly installed.

So, try regedit;
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler

Right-click the DependOnService value, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, delete the event that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

I didn't think it was DEP though, I mean he shouldn't have to make an 'exception.'

This is one of those situations where I would condone the use of remote registry or similar services so we can really SEE what's going on, but ...I'd have to kill myself after making such a terrible security risking suggestion.

If he's running Norton it could be the problem, there are issues with certian Firewalls/AV and that same error. Try shutting it down and disconnect I-net cable then clean and re-install drivers.

Aye, even if I didn't h4x0r you, someone could piggy-back it so...nada.

There's always the age old 'unplug and reinstall' trick. It sounds so weak but maybe.

The method is to unplug the printer from the USB port, uninstall all drivers, reboot.
Check the service again to see if you're still getting that 1075.

Theoretically you should be able to toggle the spooler on/off at will without any conflicts.
If you cannot, then it's back to the drawing board.

And a note on DEP, I would make sure DEP is set to 'only services I..' etc, rather than "ALL."


For a reference point, there's only six services needed to run XP.

Event Log
Plug and Play
Remote Procedure Call
Task Scheduler
Windows Management
Workstation

You might get away with not using Event Log or Task Scheduler some of the time.

Throw in DHCP, Windows Audio and System Restore and you're slimmed down but fully functional.


That doesn't help this situation, but it may make you rest easier knowing you don't have to have EVERY service turned on.
