I am changing out a z170m pro4s for the exact same motherboard. I updated the the UEFI and overclocked. I can just replace the motherboard and everything will go to default, correct? Do I need to worry about resetting anything before changing the motherboard?

I just did one in the shop and had to reactivate it. It normally auto reactivates though.

I am changing out the mobo and putting on a cpu aftermarket air cooler. I was going to put on the stock intel cooler to handle the mobo and put it in the case, then install the bigger cooler with it in the case. I had some luck putting on the aftermarket cooler last time by balancing the case on its side between two identical chairs and getting underneath it. Should I try this method again? It's one of the Evo 212s that requires a lot of touching and flipping around of the mobo when out of the case.

I replaced my older Z87-Pro with a brand new Z87-Pro this last spring on Windows 8.1 (literally the only difference was a revision to fix the USB3 sleep bug...I got the board for free brand new...in my main system it went!
) and had to reactivate Windows. 8, 8.1 and 10 all ID your mainboard by a UID, or unique identity. That means no two boards will have the same ID, even if they're the same exact model. I've done similar for OEM's like Lenovo and Dell and had to reactivate Windows there as well. It's easy enough to do...usually 10 minutes on the phone and done.

Well, I can see revision needing it...lol!
And I've done it before, but with different motherboards. When I did it with the same motherboard (from RMA different s/n), in 7, I don't recall having to do that. I skipped 8, and landed on 10 without a mobo change so far.
