computer freezes on start up

There is quite a few troubleshooting steps that have not been stated here. So everything has NOT been tried! Good luck with your Husbands PC.

Thanks. I do appreciate all the help but I find myself increasingly unimpressed by fixing old computers that are destined shortly for the recycle 'grave yard' and feel that for what this guys wants to use the computer for.. He really should upgrade. It's not that I am ungrateful for all your help.. To be honest, there is no way I would get through it all with out the copious amounts of good advice..

I did say to my husband (re this guys computer) it's like an old toaster that I would replace instead of tinkering with for 2 days. How 'profound' .. well.. maybe not.. but.. crumbs.. I just don't seem to have any tinkering time left.

Wish one of you lived next door.. I am pretty unwell and I guess this strains my patience too.

I still have 2 computers to go and it is my B.day tomorrow and I just want to crawl in bed and sleep

Yea it did seem like hardware... And Vrgn is right, but wasting time on such a comp is sometimes just a waste of time

a 300$ netbook would be 10x as powerful xD
