Can anyone tell me, will DX12 allow me to turn up graphics settings in games. I have a single Titan X, 4K monitor and a Intel 5930k. Would be nice if I didn't have to buy another Titan. Obviously I mean all things being equal like support in game for DX12 and appropriate drivers.
Possibly, don't hold your breath tough
. I've been messing around in W10 with GTAV. It's not DX12 but the VRAM load is cut in half vs W7 due to WDDM 2.0.
The most noticeable effect is the dynamic use of VRAM, instead of loading up the game and seeing it straight to 3GB and stay there, it constantly rises and falls. For example, if u just sit in one spot like a traffic intersection it can drop to as little as 700MB, whereas in W7 it would just stay at 3GB and not drop.
When it runs crap like with the last drivers I get about 35fps and much stutter.
When it runs well I get 55fps (my CAP) with 4xAA @1600x1200.
The downside is textures are paged from RAM even when there is plenty of available VRAM, resulting in occasional stutter and higher RAM load.
Tiled Resources really needs Unified Memory for optimal performance. (Actually now I think about it the stutter is prob due to me running out of RAM, I only got 8GB)
A 770 would be a decent upgrade from the 6950. Or u could grab a 7950/280 which is what I have, they all perform about the same.
