Do you leave your PC on when you are out?

I only turn mine off 1-2 times a week.

I used to leave mine on until i had to pay the bills lol. What i download these days don't take 2 hours not even games so there been no need for me.

If i was going leave one on it be our old P4 and use a low power v card then it be only taking 60-75w and not 230w which this one i'm using now or the other one which idles at 150w.

As for some one saying leaving it on 24\7 a computer will normally last longer. Turning it off all the time has more chance of a fault happening due to things expanding due to head and the serge for each time you turn it on.

I do now. My gaming comp runs 300-500watts (way too much for 24/7) But I got a Intel Atom and threw it into my Lego case with a 74 gig Raptor, It only uses 30 watts with the onboard graphics. .

I used to leave my PC on when I went out or went so sleep but now I turn it off when I sleep and when I go out, sometimes it's really hot at night so I just turn it off and also because when I leave it on I download and I'm leaving it on less for bandwidth and electric bill is high so I use it less.

Mine is on for about 22 hrs a day... I shut it off usually when I go to bed just because it makes my room hotter. I don't care about power I don't pay an electric bill.

Mine only go on and off to keep bills down - I find the network shares etc work better if everything is left on though.

I made my server to be low power and the same for my HTPC (ee cpus, 2.5" HDDs, onboard GPU etc) to minimise heat, noise and bills. They both stay on 24/7 now but the others go off when not in use.

FYI, a 1000W PSU isn't drawing 1000W all the time, it's capable of providing 1000W. Your system will idle at ~300W, and peak at a little under 450W.

I'm only home half the week generally, but my PC is left on almost 24 hours a day when I am here.
I find I leave it on just to avoid the boot time though, as I'm embarrassed to admit I don't fold. ]=

If power concerns you, do what i did and build a 50-60W download PC, or use spare pentium 3/4 parts on the cheap.

I did for the longest time, but now i'm getting touchy to temps, and in the summer I have cancelled all folding and crunching for the fate of ambient temps. I'd get to the point my PC room was 5-10F above ambient...and at 80F+...no way. Unfortunately none of my windows will fit a conventional window AC unit, and I can't afford $300 for one that will work...that's how things go. I'll be back near the end of next month tho, one thing my area is good for is a short term of warmer temps!

No, no. Power doesn't concern - at all. Just thought it'd be slightly quieter and nicer to the parents ... lol

I'm doing a second build now that has a CM iGreen CPU. That'll be my downloader.

home office. if im not playing im working. file server , email lappy, and main desktop on 24/7 - hdtv on 15/7
power is of no monetary concern(pd by work) - i shut them off when I won't be here to not use so much energy(green planet) , and to not kill out parts. I'm almost always here, so they're almost always on.

noise and heat are the only real concerns. AC cranked in summer - louder than the machines. file server in another room , main desktop has SSd and is nearly silent. hdtv sound overpowers the rig - and lappy is small and concealed. all in all it is a bit noisy, but white noise-ish and not too bad.

Definitely not, the only time I did leave my PC on with me not at home was when the family ate in a restaurant near the center of the city (just a few minutes away), and we didn't take long there.

at office yes i leave it on but at home never only if i step out for max a few minutes otherwise i don't have any reason to leave it running i think this is why we have power on & off option

and to be green i can recommend : http://localcooling.en.softonic.com/ a small piece of soft which turn off unused components when the pc isn't used;at office f.ex. i reached 10 saved trees energy equivalent

Just wondering if people realise that there's almost zero energy use difference between 'off' and 'standby/sleep' - I did some wattage tests using a energy usage plug and it read the same for both modes of 'off'.

Obviously off at the wall wins though!

bingo. S3 sleep mode can actually use a little less on some systems, since none of the LED lights are powering up. (i've owned boards where S3 sleep used 1-2 watts less than 'off' )
