DOA PII 240 Regor?

Load up safe mode with the 7750, uninstall cpu drivers, shut down and put in the new 240. See if that cures it.

Boards a few months old, wasn't possible before or now unfortuneatly. Gonna try what Jr said here in a bit.

if that doesnt work pop in the woindows disk and do a repair install...keeps all the stuff reinstalls the primary OS stuff...meaning drivers etc.

+1 to this a very very good suggestion. I was going to state from the very beginning of your thread.

The cpu in question was definitely not DOA. You would have received no post at all if DOA.

What? You can RMA it the day you buy if you need to! Unless the warranty period is expired.

I know you can RMA after you buy, but the board is a few months old and it is out of warranty. I'm just wiping my gf's HDD clean, and putting on a new copy of Win 7, hers was a bit funky anyways. Start from a clean slate here in a few min after it's done moving onto the USB stick, then see where that gets me.

I'm guessing that will fix it. If it posts, but Windows won't load, generally it is something screwy with Windows.

I definitely think you need a BIOS update. It's possible the latest BIOS doesn't list the processor, so it doesn't know what to do. If you could open CPU-z it'd probably say something screwy for the name. It happened when I installed a 965 on my friend's 790FXB-m2rsh. Nothing was stable and there were random crashes in windows but everything was smooth after the update.

i have a quick question if anyone doesn't mind. ASrock recently updated most of all the AM2+ MB's that support the latest but for some reason none list the new 965. could they have missed this but still the latest support it? just wondering.

Bios is the newest version from them, and it lists it correctly in bios as a 240, it listed it in bios as a 240 before the bios update also.

But here's a good one for everyone. I am currently using the 240 in my comp to post this message. Also I am viewing this thread on my gf's comp with my PII 720 BE in her comp.

I got new Win 7 put on there with her 7750 BE, popped in the 240 and it did the samething. The word "Windows" appears then it restarts the comp. So I then tried installing windows with the 240 in there. It goes through the loading grey bar, then the word "Windows" appears and it BSOD's.

So then I got mad and tossed my PII in her comp and it works just fine. That really makes zero sense.

**EDIT** Looking around the net I can't find any answers to this, it really makes no sense, I put up a post on AMs forums, I contacted Biostar. But I have heard Biostar customer service is horrible. I really have this gut feeling that there isn't goign to be an answer for this :/

That sucks, seems like there is just an incompatibility with the 240 and the motherboard causing Windows to freak out.

It might be because the 965 is 140w, and some boards simply can not support processor that draw that much power.

I'm thinking thats it, kinda weird, hopefully Biostar has a solution. If not the 240 is in my comp under water right now, and if they have no answer by the time I come home, I'm saying 3.8ghz or bust, we'll turn this cripple in a gold medalist. (I know it's not really a cripple)

US of A should have some level of consumer proctetion 'cause that's just crazy...

Good thing, that over here, expiration of warranty doesn't mean "no more RMA for you". "Warranty period" is just a window for the customer to complain about defects that were present when the product was bought. Like that if a part is DOA, missing parts, etc. Normal warranty period is 1 year minimum, usually 2 years. All products basically have life-time warranty (of the product) for defects that appear during normal use. For computer parts that "life-time" is "few years".

Either way I don't think it would solve it in this case as it just doesn't seem to be compatible. So gettinganother mobo would most likely end up with the same result.
