Explanations for deleted posts?

'sometimes things are just deleted' - the only reason things are deleted, is because they broke a rule. If a moderator says "cease talk on this, its off topic" and people keep going, all the posts go away. If you quoted or replied to those they go away.

If you made a post with bad humour that offended someone, and they PM'd a mod - it goes away.

If all you want is a notification every time one of your posts has to be deleted, just post porn/warez and abuse people in every post. you'll get a nice PM detailing your infraction, giving you reasons why it was deleted. (This is a bad plan, to be honest.)

i am probily sticking my noes where it dosnt belong, but personly yeah it would be nice to know if i had a post deleted and why and by who, but of all the times there would be a genuine "why was it deleted" there would be 300 pm's to the mod just crying about what happened and how they hate them and how there going to skin their cat.

i come to these and all forums with a simple tought in my head, they are a dictatorship not a democracy, aslo i think it of some ones house im invited into and if i did something against the "house" rules id be out the front door on my ass, even if i didnt relse i broke a rule at the time

Dude I understand that and maybe "Right" was the wrong word to use. The users of these forums have the right to follow the rules and nothing more. I know and respect that.

I also respect 99% of the reasons why one of my posts would be deleted. All I am asking is a small notice as to why. If only I could see it. A simple "Derail of topic" or "Potentially offending" would suffice. Something to tell the OP that their statement was deemed inappropriate.

Perhaps w1zz could write something that you can see your deleted post, the reason why, but not who did it?

I agree before I could see deleted posts, it was rather annoying having a post deleted with no explanation.

Maybe even a User CP option so you dont have to see them if you dont want to?

That way mods dont have to put any more time in, and it just takes a little bit of time on W1zzs part to implement it, which saves us all time in the long run. No threads like these, and fewer PMs to deal with, etc.

Im just throwing out ideas here, a sort of compromise, dont flame me

I think in your case you should be happy whatever posts were deleted instead of being infracted or something stupid like that. Many threads are deleted to keep a thread on topic. Really it's not too hard to figure out why something was deleted. If you have a problem with a post being deleted, contact a moderator and ask. Either way, if I see an inappropriate post, I will delete it and I will not waste my time (especially if I don't have the time) to explain why it was deleted.

I found it extremely laughable (not in a bad way) that you gave a cultural-difference angle to it. In reality, it's very mechanical. When it's off topic, you know it's off-topic. There is no measure of how much it is "off-topic", and hence nothing influencing the judgment. Hence culture is the last angle you'd want to build your argument on.

I'm not building an argument. Something being off-topic is exactly that OFF-TOPIC. I agree its mechanical. I'm talking about statements and or satire that has to do with the topic thats misunderstood and deleted.
