Is 1380 grams (3.0 lbs) too heavy for a heatsink? I'm using an ASUS striker 2 extreme (for those of you who have seen my other posts, got all my new stuff working, only to find that my scythe slimstream fans were leaking oil everywhere), so I'd imagine it is meant for heavy heatsinks, but I don't know of any THAT heavy. It seems ok with a 1000g (2.2 lbs) heatsink on it for now.

I am looking to get these fans, but the problem is that I don't think a 4pin PWM to molex connector exists. (110 CFM, 39.5 DBA, 140g).

As a result, it would seem that I need to buy these instead. (109 CFM, 38.0 DBA, 340g). Clearly the superior fan, but I just don't know if my motherboard can handle it. Thoughts?

you only need a molex to 2pin for the fan to work :) Only the black and yellow wire is needed for it to run.

Awesome! So a 3 pin to molex cable would work as well? :) (I'm assuming it would physically fit)

I think if you have your mobo laying flat it will be fine...but vertical (conventional) I dunno...that's way way more than the Intel Spec for the socket

a 3pin to molex isent really using the third pin ;) Its only there for the beauti of it :D so yeah, if it physically fits, it would work :)

Ah, I see. It will be vertical by the way, but now that I know this I can just break off a bit of the 3 to 4 pin connectors I have in order to make one that fits a 4 pin. Thanks guys :)

As a result, the fans will always run at full speed, right?

Yes it will, but you can make it run at 5v instead of 12v but having the yellow wire from the fan connected to the red wire on the molex :) on molex a red wire is 5v, yellow is 12v and black is ground :)

I'm looking to run it at full speed actually. That is interesting though. Does that mean that with this connector I will not be running it at full speed? The fan is rated at 12V.

What would you suggest I do here to get it to run at full 12V speed?

That should be running at 12v :) Personaly i would just remove the 4pin on the fan, and make a molex on it instead ;)

How would I go about doing that? Sounds like a much better idea!

cut the 4 pin off the fan, take a new molex connector, connect the wires to the pins in the molex and asemble the connector :) but you should rather run it on the molex to 3\4 pin connector, its alot easier.

I will probably go with the adapter :p Though that kind of stuff is interesting to me. I might try it on a rainy day with some spare parts.

Thanks bro!

If your bored, and got a spare fan, you can always cut the connector of the fan, and try assemble it into a molex connector :) or just use plain wires to stuff into the female molex connector like i do from time to time :D
