I have to call shenanigans on the Guru 3d review. Here's Why:
Definitely improvements across the board can be seen with the 7970. However, I have to call BS on some stuff. Some of their results are WAY off considering what they're running; especially the 560Ti results.
Notice the 560Ti Sli results:

Now remember they're running an i7 965 overclocked to 3.75. And they achieved 7363 with the Ti's. However, this is where it gets fishy.
The rig that I'm selling in my sig, running an i7 920 with a
whopping 28MHz overclock, undervolted @ 1.0v (HT on, turbo off) got 602 points over their result with the Ti's. What gives?
Here is my result. If you're too lazy to click it, my rig @ 2693 MHz scored 7965.
It actually even beat the 7970 by 41 points.
With turbo on, running ~2813 MHz, it actually scored 8450. (Sorry no link, just reformatted and didn't keep it.)
Now sure, that may be with
slightly factory OC'd 560Ti's, but it doesn't explain the discrepancy that they're getting --almost 600 points.
I guess I have some magical golden 920 that beats other i7's with over 1GHz less CPU speed.
