GTX 960 or GTX 1060 (Pascal)

Should I wait for the 960 or the 1060?

Its only one year from now (excluding this year ofc)

^^This entirely! If you are in need of an upgrade, just do it now, because we don't even have a year's worth of leaked specifications ahead of us, there is just nothing. So, resolve to wait or upgrade now.

I would pull the trigger on either a 760 4gb or wait for a 960 4gb card. Either one will be a huge improvement over your GT440.

2. There is not word on if Nvidia is going to keep the same name scheme or switch to something else

como on lad, that video card is pretty solid for 1080p, OP has listed 1080p maximun display...

Hey, the 970s can hold there weight. If you gaming at 1080p the card does pretty darn well on its own. Though, nVidia should of been a bit truthful on the VRAM issue.
Plus, they kill butt at folding too.

You will be waiting awhile. The first Pascals will be lower high-end. Then after several more months before the mid-range, if Nvidia follows their normal release pattern. So I would estimate October at the earliest.

The GTX1060 will be more crippled than any 970. that x6x batch of cards has always had no memory bandwidth.

They've actually said they are. Maxwell deliberately had compute removed in order to maximize DX11 performance with less power and heat, which it did. They used Maxwell as a filler to tide them over until DX12 actually became available in games. It's looking like their timetable is right on the money.

Plus the fact, its a shrink and compute coming back with Pascal. Hope they manage to up the performance and keep the power draw down too.

Yeah, how many times have we heard that? If Nvidia does manage to produce a GPU with a major improvements in graphics, well over what AMD produces, like what happened with the GTX 600/HD 7000 series, we'll see the exact same thing. Nvidia will hold on to what was meant to be it's flag ship GPU until the next generation (GK110, aka GTX 780ti) and release a lower designed model as their flagship GPU. Just like they did with the GTX 680 ( GK104, which was originally designed as a mid-level card).

That the reason I buy used GPUs for cheaper. Nabbed me some 980Tis with water blocks and back plates off a peep for 650 a piece.

So the cards kind of wound up being 500 and the block and plate the other 150.

I have typically had the top tier cards and never paid the crazy price. You just have to grab them at the right moment in time.
