hi..my friend decided to buy a new g card...and these two are his choices bcoz in his budget range...which one is worth to buy???

Get the 8800GT, the performence of the 8800GT is much better than the HD2900pro even if you flash the card to an XT. The 8800GT will support PCI-E 2.0 ass well, something that the HD2900 pro doesen't have. Anyway, if i was you i would definitely go for the 8800GT, and thats what i'm going to do.

Very true...I'm waiting to see about that 3-phase power 8800GT, maybe there's something there. But the 8800GT is a great card, it's just the failure rate is reminding me of the xbox360 atm.

If you can get a 2900Pro for a good deal, then go for it, if you can wait, I would recommend doing so, maybe get a cheaper "buffer" card to get you by until then. There may be a new 8800GTS on the horizon, a 9800, then ATI's 3850/3870 and so fourth. Things could get very interesting, especially if performance is similar, and prices start going down!

Any chance of some linkage there...I haven't seen any of these threads...and am Interested In reading them to see If I need to change anything I'm doing. :rockout:

On topic:...If your only going beteween the 2900Pro and the 8800GT...then the 8800GT Is the better card hands down.....If you can wait....then wait for the 38** series coming out on the 15th I think...then look at the benches and reviews.

i'll have the 3 phase power 8800 gt tomorrow for another build. i'll report on it.
personally i have the 2900 pro and i love it.

if you want a fast card that's very quiet and cool, and on top of that features dx 10.1, pci-e2 and better crossfire options (mixed crossfire and quad), get one of the 3800 series. they're quite overclockable although, in all reality, i have to wonder if performance is gonna be better than the 2900 xt at stock levels, which is still fine for me, if it delivers everything else.

the 8800 is the card to go with if you want something that's faster and don't mind a little extra noise and heat. (with my pro, i i hardly ever go over 60c, but the noise from the fan is really loud)

8800 GT all the way. Don't go by fanboyish responses of 2900 Pro from people like Zek.

I have had both. There is not too much real world difference between them. The 8800GT edges the 2900 pro by around 2FPS in most games. Bioshock being the exception that I have seen with the 2900 decimating the 8800GT. Around a 15FPS edge for the 2900.

Really, it doesn't matter, which ever one is cheaper.

Damn, just noticed the 2900XT is now 279.99 on the Egg...its too bad I just bought an SLI board for 2x 8800GT...oh well they will stomp performance!

8800GT beats the 2900pro from the base setup, could go back and forth if it was clocked and flashed to a 2900xt...

Honestly I would wait for the 3850/3870 and see what those end up to be, then make a decision.
