I have a feeling this is going to be the beginning of the end, I see way too many 0 feedback accounts on Ebay just spamming obviously stolen shit, Ebay has a terrible filtration policy. I wanted a dualshock 4 controller a month or two ago as some of you might remember, I went on Ebay, SOOO MANY OBVIOUS FAKES and 0 feedback accounts. Ebay is utter garbage.

I still think we should make it heatware only, no changes to this site, its going to get flooded with wankers and bots otherwise.

No offense to those of you who use Ebay only, def some good rep people there, but eh.

Also, most of us who use heatware use PayPal, it literally takes like 10 seconds to sign up for heatware. Sigh. Think carefully before making changes to something that works, this isn't meant to be a sell place for the entire world, its meant to be a sell place for this community. 100 posts is super easy for a bot and chatgpt to get. :/ its really no barrier at all.

@Solaris17 @W1zzard :(

if you don't want to use heatware use ebay, its that simple imo and no big deal (no offense to those who want those changes, this is just how I feel)

Let me put it this way, if i buy something on TPU it's going to need heatware

On a side note, I blame Facebook Marketplace in completely destroying the used market. It's such a joke. I have a stack of stuff just laying around I need to get rid of, I'm just frustrated with the whole thing.
I don't know the numbers but TPU just doesn't seam to have the traffic it once had for buying a selling, yet i haven't tried

it has died down a lot, i was able to sell stuff quicker before covid. i will prob end having to drop my 7900 xt/5600x3d listing down to 700 or 750 before it sells. i could get more on ebay, but eh i'd rather do business here, and after all the fees from ebay it wouldn't be that much less anyway.

I'm getting rid of it because I am traveling, my job allows me to work remote from anywhere and my friends let me stay rent free in a few different countries. Should be a lot of fun, I already did this once in 2022, I wasn't expecting to do it so soon again, but no one has hired me full time anywhere even with 1000+ applications since August 2022... so fk it yolo

I wouldn't be able to pull it off if my friends didn't let me stay rent free, so I am pretty lucky in that regard.

I am neutral, I haven't used it in quite awhile, but I have dealt on forums since then. If we keep it I am totally ok with it..

And yet I have made purchases on here, and have 0, 0, and 0 heatware (still). The utility is pretty limited, IMHO.

If it is easy for a bot to get an account and quality posts on this forum, it is easy to sign up for heatware and get some fake heat. There is no real verification.

I would say that at least 4 or 5 stars would be a good barrier to spam.

I don't really frequent the BST forum, but I am hoping to post a few items on there this coming Monday or Tuesday - if my new components I'm installing go without a hitch. When I do drop in there from time to time there aren't too many posts going up like they were 2-3+ years ago.

  • I don't do ebay - last thing I purchased off there was two of the MS natural elite keyboards and that was 6 years ago. Before that was a couple of Garfield related items way before I got my keyboards. I just don't like it so I'm not interested in selling or buying on it.
  • I don't do Facebook (or any social media for that matter, I don't even let my kids use social media. Only the wife does Facebook and we've had a few heated arguments about keeping my personal and our kids personal info off that fucking site) so no Facebook Marketplace for me.
  • I tried Craigslist once and that was a bust so I don't use it anymore.
  • I have in the past sold stuff on Amazon and things usually worked out okay, but I had a couple of interactions with some of the dumbest people that's kept me away from using it for quite a while now. This becomes my last ditch fall back spot to try and sell used hardware if I can't find a new home on TPU.
  • I tried Tomshardware's B/S/T some years ago, but it was kind of a ghost town and nothing came of it.
  • I checked out a couple other hardware forums BST, but they're about as busy as TPU's or worse, plus I'm not wanting to put effort into signing up for the forums or hitting the X number of posts required to access said BST because I don't generally have much to say....don't like to hear myself talk nor even type things out online at times.
  • If all else failed in the past I used to give my hand me downs to my younger brother and he used to survive on PC parts from me for years, but he's got a solid mid(ish) ranged gaming PC on his own
That kind of leaves me with TPU for any odd things I'm looking to sell. Heatware being required or not doesn't bother me either way. I'll make use of it if someone I interact with wants to.

Edit:
Man....I think I'm posting too much. I just noticed my Messages per day count has increased. It used to 0.48/day, now it's up 0.5/per day. I'm getting too chatty....time to slink back to the shadows a bit more.

I agree with this, the real issue is how do we gain trust? I think you kind of nailed it, 100 posts isn't enough, it needs to be a 2-3 year old account with 4 or 5 stars and consistently active, honestly that's what I look for already, I have had new accounts message me years ago offering to buy and i was like lulz no take care

Hi,
Well as someone with at least 6 sells on eBay and no reviews good or bad I can tell you no news isn't bad news lol
I've never reminded a buyer to leave feedback either.

I personally am more inclined to leave feedback if things go wrong than right seeing time is short usually and I move on.
I've bought on eBay as well without leaving feedback.
Amazon as well so there isn't a rule about no feedback they must be a scam plant.

There are how ever lots of lowballers "just buy and resell" there and if they do end up buying "rarely because they are in fact lowballers" they definitely will not leave feedback if they don't get those discounts they wanted lol

And no offense taken

Paypal well one of the best things about eBay now days is paypal is not forced to use anymore so eBay can take care of internal issues themselves, this is a positive not a negative for sellers.
Anytime I bought from eBay/... I use a credit card not paypal I closed my paypal long ago.
Credit cards have far better protections and I have linked a CC with paypal but thought why the hell did I do that for lol

Glad someone opened this one. Been here for over a decade (~12 years or so), extremely rarely visited the Buy/Sell thread as I know the website is international and shipping/customs would be a killer. I actually wanted to sell something for the first time a few months ago and I saw the Heatware requirement. I don't even know what this is. I do have an Ebay account with plenty of feedback as a buyer, never sold anything there and also a Paypal and whatever other payment method you want, but Heatware, yeah...I don't get it.

I would prefer to keep it. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed between now and "then" (when B/S/T was more active) with regards to the functionality of Heatware. We've got enough scammers and BS to deal with in this world, and I'd prefer to have something more to show that a person's reputation is legitimate besides a few posts here (which is already a requirement).

I understand. I never wanted to make a heatware originally either. Being a long time member though even with a heatware of 0 people would trust you, so its just a matter of you making one really and linking it in your sale thread.

Hi,
To be clear
I never said to drop heatware all together
People have been using it since it has been a requirement to post b/s/t section.

All I'm saying is drop the requirement since HW looks like it's in bad shape and no telling if it will live much longer just as a referral/ review website and not a market place anymore as stinger608 has said
The for sale area of Heatware never really did ever "take off" like the admin expected it to, so comparing a site like TPU to it's for sale area, really isn't fair.
After looking at the donations list on the bottom banner on HW site it made 77.us+- last month

Now reality check,
How long could anyone maintain the cost of a website with that amount of donations/ income, it does also state 60.us donation goal for this month :/
Maybe the solution is easier than I first thought ?
People that use the site should maybe donate or use the HW market place as well.
Make the site worth recommending ?
Just a thought.

I said quality posts, and it works at other places, 2-3 years? Sell it local lol..
Hi,
I prefer this, people can see the items first hand, testing is more than possible in person.
Plus cash rules
Craigslist where I'm at now pretty much sucks
Houston was way better way more techies around.

I just buy new if it's something I want. Why create more hoops than already exist?

I have a stack of stuff just laying around I need to get rid of, I'm just frustrated with the whole thing.

Seeing as you are safely termed a long time member here. What is the barrier to making a listing on TPU?
I think you realize the wedge blocking normal activities and that in time many are lead to believe it resembles a piece of cheese. Give in to a substitute for the real thing.

Timing is not great for revisiting a fairly low key and stable element that dribbles in a steady stream of funds. Given the amount of personal attention shown by site staff it seems reasonable to believe there are projects more worthy of their labors than deconstructing BST. [Never hurts to pad your account with pleasing messages to offset points accrual. :D ]

Honest question. Is it worth it to get a Heatware Account to buy, sell and trade here for a user from Germany??

Likely not worth it. 50-50 at best like Thrash says. An overhaul on the B/S/T rules seem like a good idea, but it's a tricky one. Platforms like heatware are relics of the old internet, where trust was much, much more important in a transaction. Escrow services in modern trading platforms such as eBay and MercadoLibre have made online commerce much safer, but at the same time, forum staff obviously wants to avoid the drama and any potential liabilities, so changing an age-old formula is a difficult thing to do.

If I do end up selling up any of my hardware in the future, I will consider it an option, though.
