Torchlight 2 is the closest I know of that you described. I would recommend Payday and Borderlands over it though. Torchlight 2 gets too repetitive.

Oh, Grim Dawn, its in Alpha or something, totally forgot about it. I think that's an isometric hack and slash D3-like RPG.

Not really the high fantasy RPG games you were looking for but you should try Garry's Mod. It's fun to play with two players only or even with random people. Lots of game modes and mods to do. Almost everything you can imagine.

Terraria and Minecraft are also fun, even for two players only. you should consider them.

Portal 2 has a "short but fun while it lasted" coop campaign

The Payday and L4D series and Dead Island are specifically designed for coop play although for four players. playing it with two might be kinda boring.

FarCry 3 has a decent coop campaign

Yeah the problem there was that they didn't change the things that needed changing and changed things that were already done my modders to the original. I have both the original and EE, and the original with mods is better.

They would only need two things really to make it worth it: Running and better graphics (not just a high resolution), and possibly better controls.

It maybe a little too arcade-ish for your taste, but Steam just released FORCED for $12 and it looks pretty darn fun. The puzzle elements look like it will keep it more fresh than a standard hack n slash.

We decided to play through Dead Island. We are in the middle of Act II. Borderlands 2 I think will be next on our list.

Neverwinter Nights 2 is another we might run though later.

I really would love a Skyrim type game that is co op. Those are just not out there to find.

Cooperation is good in Gears of War, Syndicate and Serious Sam (the first and the second encounters).

Path of Exile. It's quite good, and it's a way better Diablo clone than Torchlight. It's probably as good as Titan Quest even!

I have not played D3 beyond the beta they had so I can't say anything about that. It's obviously not as good as D2.
