Well my mom riddled her computer full of viruses... again. Last time I fixed it by using the Bit Defender online scan but that just won't cut it this time. In safe mode with networking, BD didn't pick up any viruses so I figured I would try running it in normal mode but whenever I try to run the BD scan, this thing called "personal anti virus" interferes and won't let me run the scan. Apparantly she got to some website or popup or something that said she had viruses on her computer and went through it and installed one of those fake antivirus programs that is actually a virus in and of itself. Something is stopping her from using the internet in general as well. After 5 seconds of her homepage being up (the armstrong ISP homepage) something comes up and says that it found spyware or viruses on the page and reccomends installing thier software. I would take a screencap of it and upload the picture here, but I would need my computer to do that and there's no way in hell I'm putting my flash drive in that computer or burning a cd from that computer and putting it in mine.I even went so far as to unplug that computer from the damn router so as to prevent it creeping over the network.
Anyways, bottom line this PC is pretty much fucked and if it were mine I would erase everything and reinstall windows but it's not mine so I need to go through the process of cleaning it out. TPU, are there any good free antiviruses I can use here? I hear a lot of talk about NOD32 and Kapersky but those are paid programs.
