Upgrade monitors instead. Anyone who doesn't game at 1080p+ on a PC these days should just get a console.............
Or get a 970 + 1080p monitor. There is not a single game my 780 cant run at 1920 x 1200 at 60fps+ and I have like 120 games on my computer. And a 970 is faster then a 780 by 20-25%.
Wow. How did none of us think of that?
900p is a fine resolution, I personally wouldn't want to game on anything over 1080.
I used to think the same way, went from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 and was happy for ages with no interest in upgrading. Then I got into rendering and built this workhorse PC and grabbed my 1440 monitor... There's just no going back. Instead of having to max AA at 1680x1050 to get rid of jaggies and with high-res textures, fog/particles, etc. looking the same between medium and high, I now run 2x AA at most and can actually see the different thicknesses of fog/particles, textures pop more and are more detailed, it's just better all around. Then again, it takes one heck of a PC to be able to game at this res and still crank up the eye-candy.
1080p is a fine resolution for gaming, but saying you wouldn't go higher? Have you actually experienced higher resolutions? Depending on how close you sit to your monitor, anything above ~24" at 1080p starts getting pixelated, not to mention the movie and game industries are moving towards higher resolutions anyway. If you have to move the monitor further from you to alleviate the pixelation, it's time for a higher resolution.
7850 is what you have? If so, looking at the gtx 970 charts for overall performance @ 900p shows it to be about 2x the speed.
I feel a part that can be doubled in speed is a worthy upgrade.
Agreed that a part with twice the speed is a worthy upgrade, but that's not the question. The question was does he
need to upgrade to get the performance he wants. While the 7850 isn't exactly a powerhouse card, it
should run at 900p handily. According to W1zz's own reviews, the 7850 2GB kicks out playable framerates in most games at damn near max settings at higher resolutions than
@We'llBangOK? is using, some games up to 2560x1600. Metro 2033 is another story, but that's a very intensive game and even modern cards are having a hard time maxing out Last Light/2033 Redux, so it's to be expected.
I'm with
@MxPhenom 216 on this one, grab a 1080p monitor with a low response time and a GTX 970, and you'll be set for a while.
