Laptop CPU

Hi all. My sister gave me her old laptop so I can use it for school work. I would like to see if there is a better CPU, but I don't know anything about laptop CPU's. The model is a compaq nc6000 and it has an Intel Pentium M 479 1.6 GHz processor in it. Can I upgrade?

Very doubtful, those socket 479's weren't very powerful. Looks like Intel made a 1.7GHz processor but I think your capped at 400Mhz FSB so upgrading for an extra 100Mhz isn't going to do much.

Yes you can upgrade it, however you can only go for the Celeron-M or Pentium-M processors. I don't believe there are much more powerful processors for the socket than what you have however, sorry!

I would not think so. It's a maze with socket 479, P or whatever you call it. A bunch of different CPU's that are physicly the same but not compatible with each other. There is a 2.0 Ghz model, if you could find that for cheap it might be worth it, but it would have to be cheap.

EDIT: I think it's called Pentium M 740.
