These are hype Slides that are "leaked" from Nvidia is all, just like the slides from them during the Radeon 4830 fiasco.

Proof they are leaked from NV?

I'm making the point these remind me of the slides NV had released when the 4830 Samples had the Wrong Bios in them is all.

Main factor in deciding my next graphics cards purchases: Nvidia is open source.

One thing we are not taking into account yet Either (5900/5800/5700 series owners) That there is a rumor that the new 9.12 drivers are supposed to give a huge increase in performance...... Now I understand that Driver releases like this haven't really made a difference since the days of Nvidia holding back performance on purpose.... and then releasing 15% more right before their competition was supposed to release their cards. But still we will see...... if rumors are meant to be believed we should see an extra 25% performance in some games as well as a raise in ower lower FPS. We will find out soon enough.......

http://twitter.com/CatalystMaker/statuses/6503170288

But to get back on topic for me I did another look around the net...... I'm not the only one thinking that if this is true..... ATI might be screwed. God I sure hope not!!! I started with ATI no matter how frustrated I get with them sometimes...... it's nostalgic for me!

I'm not going to spend hours searching for it, but it's no secret.

It was in an interview with either the CEO of AMD or ATI. I can't remember which.

He was asked about open sourcing them and he specifically said that there were parts of ATIs software that they did not want to see released to the public.

Well that is their choice to not release their software to the public as they have a right to defend their trade secrets- every big company has trade secrets. Look at MS Windows- React OS is a Windows clone so to speak and it is a clean-room engineering meaning it doesnt violate any of MS trade secrets. I also rest my case.:toast:

I think the main points have already been made here:
competition will remain, regardless of the situation. Just because brand X has a top-of-the-line card that can beat its competitor by a massive 5 FPS(!) or so, does not mean that the competitor will be forced out of the market. If that was the case, then AMD should have died more than a decade ago, at the hands of the Intel camp. Didn't happen of course, nor will it.
Secondly, these .. scores .. as mentioned before, are based on DX10! Now, why on earth would you release a brand-new sell-your-granny-to-get-me-d00d type GFX card, when in proving how fast it is, is based on a format that's already been superseded?

These rumour mills are great stuff :)

anyone else notice these slides depict DX10? before everyone gets in a fluster why didnt Nvidia show some real substance like Dirt 2 with DX11 effects or Heaven Bench or some Call Of Prypit benchs something that actually matters because at this point a 5700 5800 and 5900 card already kills DX10 games and we know GT300 will as well but what really matters is DX11 support and how the cards perfrom in DX11 all i see here is old news hey look this game runs at 60+ fps on 3 gen old hardware lets show more doctored slides of it  oh well this happens every gpu release its a never ending rewrite of My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, except for Nvidia its
My Hardware brings all the nerds to the show

Now the good scenario if these benches are true is as follows...... Nvidia probably won't release these cards till late Q1 if not Q2. If that happens maybe that is why they are making them so strong. ATI by that time will be hard at work with their 6800 series and they will be releasing them shortly after wards. By that time ATI could afford to drop the price way low and NVidia couldn't. Because the 5800 series would be older tech and Nvidia would still be trying to capitalize on their new cards. Then they would have a shit tone worth of money saved up from the 4800 series and the 5800 series to come back and try to blast Nvidia.

I mentioned somewhere that it took AMD 14 months to release HD5000 series, so It won't take anytime sooner than that to release their next gen cards, unless it's something base on HD5000, even so, a new gen base on the older gen won't make a huge different.

True. And I don't think 28nm process will be trully ready in 2010 either, considering how 40nm is right now.

no i mentioned it as well as someone else above and i made a stupid reference between nvidia and that stupid milkshake song :toast: as i said this slide means zilch its like the ati 2900 vs 8800 days where DX10 games (in some cases both were neck and neck but in DX9 the 8800 was king

my guess that trend will continue in DX10 games i suspect GT300 will be king in DX11 they will be equal

AMD has an advantage of over 5 months head start, so when nvidia releases their Dual GPU GTX 380, AMD will have HD 6870 out in some months after it ;)

I suspect that these benchmarks are somehow optimized for Nvidia, and ATI, I think, has the 90's (5890/5990) series cards laid out.

That is, if these numbers are real.

I'm sorry but they have to do better than this to impress me like the 58xx series did. Anyway lets see some "leaked" Dirt2 "benches".

Yeah, just the way they wrote those three games into there and nothing else smells funny. It's entirely possible those three games are/have been reviewed but the games they chose sure weren't the ones the 5870 beat the 295 on. I'd wager if someone did benchmark homework those are games the last gen came closest to 5 series on and the 3 series benches are guesstimates.

But that's just me thinking too much. They do this to get your brain attuned to possibly going for the newest badboy on the market, I'm going to set up a counseling session to try and counteract the marketing.

Last time I checked, nVidia drivers were hardly open source.

I do agree that their new top end single GPU card should beat out a 5870 (because ATI most likely has something saved to spoil that party), but I still just can't see how a company thats scrambling to catch up with a DX11 card could release something thats nearly as fast as 2 downclocked 5870'x (5970). The margin between the supposed GTX 360 and the 5970 is about the same margin as the one between the 5870 and the GTX 295, just can't see how they would leap frog a whole generation of power.
