Nvidia phone?

nvidia has taken over another company in the mobile buisness http://gizmodo.com/5811573/nvidia-can-soon-build-its-own-all+in+one-chipsets-with-icera-purchase- seems their getting dangerously close to having enough parts for an entire phone

anyone else think this is where Nvidia have been going with all the recent tech purchases?

I don't think they'll ever make a phone themselves. This just makes them able to include baseband capability into Tegra, so that a third party chip is not needed. Basically their SoC will now be able to compete head to head with Qualcomm, TI, etc. on every aspect and not just the graphic and CPU portion.

Nvidia's mobile saturation will become much better with the next round of smartphones.

The Tegra 2 chip is already in one of the best smartphones: LG's G2x.

Kal-El Superphone here we come!!!

It's late for Kal-El, as in a SoC featuring everything (unless they had some deal with Icera before the acquisition). They will be able to offer a complete platform with Kal-El, though, albeit in 2 chips. This is a slight disadvantage against other SoC suppliers, but Nvidia seems way ahead (6-12 months) with their product cycles so they arguably have a "better" solution. Or at least more appealing, something that Tegra 2 already demostrated.

yeh thats an old new from now! nvidia started project tegra long back and ended up the real thing with tegra 2 with ULP geforce equipped with dual ARM processors to bring total handheld solutions to the market, LG, motorola, samsung they got parallel and someone known as Nokia failed behind with old hardware! and android the iOS and windows killer is now in hands with nvidia(note latest source code are always provided to nvidia priorly). the project Kal-El(tegra 3 with 12cuda cores/quad ARM/ 28nm) is supposed to be lunching this year but the 28nm manufacturing is at critical stages, we dont want to risk it all said by nvidia!! but yet 1440i with tegra 3 in a mobile ? well thats too much

So as for the news nvidia buying the company is a vision nvidia excluding ARM out of its profits and being independent.

Edit: LG optimus x2 is not the fastest nvidia fone, Samsung Galaxy S II(nvidia edtion) will be

I'm guessing that Alienware phone mockup was made before Android was first released on the G1 so sometime before 2008? The UI looks like something on from my old Nokia "dumbphone". I also can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to hold that things with those ridges.

the alienware was a big lie but the samsung fone did existed BUT NOT NVIDIA just a regular screen rotation and the third one actually is a prototype of tegra, use to appear on nvidia site couple of years back when tegra project existed

yeah, i guess better for nvidia just play on hardware than jump into phone market and sell it with nvidia brand, remember smart phone booming? its powered by nvidia, tablet and other
