580 consumes 30-40 watts more on average than a 6970. Not that big a diff.
Double it and it's actually rather significant. The problem is enhanced by the latest gen scaling exceptionally well in xfire. I'd bet the 590 really does struggle to pull ahead if it even can, and it would take a miracle for them to be even is power usage. I'm starting to think this is meant to just be an nvidia fan's alternative to the 6990 rather than a superior performer. And that works just fine. If I had the money I'd rather get the 590 than a 6990. Until AMD stops being stubborn assholes and add per application support I'm sticking with nvidia. I mean it's just such an obvious feature and one people have requested for ages.
