Nice! If I could get my x1950 up to your OC's I'd be closer to 5600 in 06...but alas in Vista it's tough for me to go beyond upper 5400s. That chip should treat you well!

As far as going DX10 in the fall, I am considering the same, it depends on how the 2900pro's look (I haven't heard anything, but I'm assuming it's gonna happen). And how well DX10 has come along by then.

Good choice...I've been hearing that some of the new Opty 165's are having issues going above 2600 with new stepping (I think its 704). I have a CCBBE 0617 running @ 2900, Orthos stable. I've really have looked at getting a 170 for the better divider, Running 322 FSB is pretty high and really messes with my ram on dividers and timings.

No doubt. With Dx10 it's like the cork on the bottle was just popped... you've got to let it breathe a while.:D(Just made that up!) I want to see what new stuff AMD has before I buy, plus whenever that happens Intel's stuff is going to go way down in price, theroretically boosting my crossfire budget! And watercooling, etc, etc...

Yep, the options are multiplying in my head as we speak....now all that overtime I'll need...LoL!! I think by christmas or maybe just after newyear's DX10 support will be what we all hoped it should be by now. But new things take time, and it still has some promise to it. I just hope the graphics MFG's can make high powered units such as the 8800's and 2900's on smaller PCB's..hell if an 8800 was the size of my x850 or even better my 9600 I'd crap myself! The cooler for it would probably swallow the entire card and then some!

ATi is switching everything to 65nm. Nvidia is going from 90nm to 80nm with the 8900's I think, it could be that both the 8800's and 8900's are 80nm. But who knows anyways, I do know that you, I, the video card companies, and the rest of the world all know that these cards are deffinately getting out of hand with heat and power consumption, so natrually the "current" manufacturing trends are going for smaller, less power consuming, yet powerful gpu's. I really don't want to have to buy any PSU that is over 1000 watts, ever.

Yes for the first question, and I think a no, for the latter. Opty's aren't listed under cpu support for your motherboard.

They don't list the Optys on regual motherboards information(Not a server board), but yes they do work on the boards not listed.

It will work, it's the same exact CPU as an athlon 64, just made of better silicon. It will either say Unknown CPU in the bios or it will read it as an Opteron.

Your choices for x2's in 939 are very limited. Some "high-end" x2's can only oc as far as 2.8-3.0 if you are very, very, very lucky. The opterons are server processors, made from better parts (silicon) and can withstand higher overclocks without a problem. A x2 3800+ which is the only 939 dual core really available right now has a mulit of x9. I have a very new x2 3800+ that tops out @ 2.75 with a bit more voltage than I really want to give it and this is a "good one". Realistically the 3800 is good for running @ 2.5ghz, mem @ 414mhz, fsb @ 250, htt @ 1000, with my motherboard anyways. The opty 165 is set up the same way with a 9x multi but a 1.8ghz stock speed, however you can overclock it more. The $115 opty 170 (which I just bought) gives you a x10 multi @ 2.0ghz stock. The larger multi means it takes some stress off of my fsb, so I can OC the processor higher while maintaining a stable fsb and htt.
Hope I made some sense.:D
