Considering that the new i3's outperform some phenoms I wouldnt suggest the AMD route, id go for an i5 750 for a gaming rig or a hot dual core 775, like an E8600.

It is pointless to put your money for such an obsolete socket like 775 IMO.

okay so he goes 775 with a dualcore to save a few bucks and he then gets raped by upcoming games that use a quadcore example Supcom at high unit lvls a dual core will tank the frame rates and in Grand Theft Auto 4 the games unplayable on a dualcore even if its clocked in the 4ghz + range

i5 750 is a viable option at about $150-200 more for the same features but in terms of overall everday tasks theres little difference if the OP was going to go the intel route he is better off just going x58 + i7 920 and get it over with

You are true crazyeyesreaper. If he'd like to go an Intel way, 8 threads would be the target. A Xeon X3450 (which basically is an i5 750 with HT and great OC capabilities, supported by any P55 motherboard) is a good way to saving a few bucks. Slightly more pricey than i5 750, but cheaper than i7.

The i3 and new i5 CPUs aren't bad but I just can't justify even to myself paying so much for a dual core.

So, kyle, even though I simply LOVE Dead Snow and your avatar :)rockout:), going for 775 is a bad choice.

I would go for either a Phenom II X4 or a i5 750, both offer more than enough upgrading capabilities and are quite good for the price.

also after seeing a few review sites KILL the i3 cpus when overclocking i cant really recommend them seems toms hardwares intel guru managed to get 4ghz + with i3 and 4ghz with the amd 550be or w/e the 550be ran perfectly the i3 was fried dead finito caput gone so if the i3s cant take voltage there not going to be very good overclockers long term so i3 dualcore that cant clock as fast as a core 2 duo and is only on par with a core 2 duo just dosent makes sense i5 750 or Phenom II 955 make the most sense cost / perfromance wise

Can anyone tell me how long the 5850 GPU is? Does anyone have an opinion of XFX vs visiontek as a manufacturer?

Seeing as though you asked about both SLI and CrossfireX, I suggest going single card but you guys seem to forget that most P55 boards support both.

I guess it just all depends,IMo, AM3 would give best bang for buck if you mainly want to strictly use single card or stick with CrossfireX.

Another moot point is that we have much talk in the forums about SLI hacked for any chipset. It has been tried and it's always in development to improve.

In the long run, I beleive you should go with an AM3 build. In the gaming aspect an x4 6x0 Propus or x3 4xx Rana chip will give best bang for buck for gaming usage.

With that said:

this will probably be your best combo with a very VERY good motherboard choice.

EDIT:

Nix on the above combo, check this one out instead:

Also with that said forget about what I said on the holdover board.

I personally like AMD for the Motherboards...cause they are cheaper and can usually be easily swapped....just read about someone swapping a Motherboard using RAID0 with sataII and swapping to RAID0 under SATAIII using Acronis True Image But i guess you could do that with any dual SATAII and SATAIII controller mobo but this just happened to be a AMD board...

Intel cpu's have a longer lifespan than there motherboards and they keep switching sockets which IMO is just annoying as all Hell

Psu

well quadcore now 6 core thuban later 4 gigs ram now 8gigs + later 1terabyte HDD now SSD later 5850 now 2 5850s later or a better gpu from the next series etc

Based on the above future upgrade the PSU in the recommed build does not have the 4 6pins needed. Should I upgrade to the professional series 650w or the regular 750w, they both have the connectors for the future upgrade.

The additional pins are needed for the cross fire GPU setup

the gpus will come with adaptors its not really recommended but the corsair will easily power the gpus with said adaptors which are included with your gpu
