I wonder in the first place why they stopped doing arena games all of the sudden. Back in yeah, 1999, they were growing like mushrooms after rain. The thing is, why they always and all expect you need to stuff in more features and make everything more complicated and fiddly. There is a place where all the advanced features and 30 billion keybinds for every friggin thing are unnecessary and annoying.
Quake 3 Arena and UT99 were not awesome because they had bunch of upgrades and class features that you could abuse, it was pretty much entirely down to a predefined set of weapons (though with more fire modes) available to players and your own skill. But it was all done so perfectly it felt like there aren't any fiddly things.
And while they did sort of fuck up UT3, i still had tons of fun with it and that was against bots only like with UT99 when i didn't have internet connection yet. The Greed mode with max possible bots, Rocket Arena mutator, health and armor regeneration and highest difficulty mode was always a good challenge and great fun. It was all about rocket trajectory and tracking of other players. When you can predict player motion so far that you can hit them with rockets in mid air without using the seeking, you were sort of there
And that was jolly fun. Just like i had fun with InstaGib mode or Sniper Arena in UT99 against bots on Godlike. It was amazing how incredibly human like bot were back then.
Anyway, i'm looking forward to this, if they got it right, they'll deserve more than just 15 bucks.
