WOW your a very friendly man!!! That Thermalright heatsink is big but is considered to be the best vga cooler out. I couldn't find one page that didn't list it as fantastic.

Oblivion , Company Of Heroes , Prey, Call Of Juarez and Half Life 2 HI-END GAMES ????
Oblivion is almost 2 years old, so is Prey and Call Of Juarez, Half life 2 is 3 years old or something...And these are HI-END games ??? Jesus...
Also like i said 100 times the 8800 is 7 months older than the X2900XT....And in these 7 months more ATI managed to produce an card equal or even better than the low end 8800GTS version...So what is the entire fuzz about ???
The potential the X2900 has now is worthless ( IF it has any ) since it gets beaten easily from the 8800GTX/Ultra and by the time its potential gets used we will have the X3XX seires and the 9XXX series.

You really need to do more research. The 2900 is how much cheaper than the GTX or Ultra, yet it almost matches their performance in some games. That shows potential. And a 7 month difference in release times has absolutely nothing to do with this. We still don't have an abundance of DX10 games, they are now just releasing, so ATI is still right on time to the party.

You still have yet to qualify your statement about it being an inferior product. All you do is spout fanboy rant after fanboy rant, with no proof to back up your accusations.

Well said! The current crops of cards are cash cows using the DX10 support as more of a selling gimick than anything. But DX10 could come out and show us that these cards will pull massive FPS at high resolutions, time will tell. I'm not sold on any point of getting a DX10 card except for running super high rez DX9 games with max AA/AF, settings, HDR, etc. My 1950pro suits me fine at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. Sure I don't score half what an 8800 scores in 3dMark06, but my games run smooth and look pretty with all the goodies turned up, so really it comes down to how badly you want the new stuff and look beyond what little is STILL out there that fully utilizes these cards.

We'll see what happens in short time I'm sure, and if I'm left out of the DX10 fun, oh well, because I guarentee those games will have DX9 compatability, unless the creators don't want to make much money to support another game or their company. I'll give DX10 a year, by next summer it may be worth getting a card for if there are enough decent games out that my card can't handle in DX9 mode to play at what I like. That's my opinion.

Well those were not very good photos I think it looks very cool ,however,looks are not what I'm after. The 8800gtx, 2900xt run superhot and if it lowers my temps by 25 percent more power to it.

Seems you like to argue this DX10 2900 vs 8800 thing though, more power to ya! I see no point in either, but glad that you see the 8800 victor. You have valid points, and the 2900 fanboys have their points. In the end, I think neither is worth it unless you wanna play super resolution maxed out DX9 games with super frame rates, which there is definately nothing wrong with...I just find it hard to buy a card I can't fully utilize and may not perform as well in DX10 when it does show up in some more games. Time will tell for sure! I hope my view is wrong and all of you with DX10 cards get the fruits of the victor, and if not OC the snot out of it till it plays as fast as is can!

THink of it from a case side view looking downward through the window, all you would see really are the ends of the heatpipes.. a led fan would look better with it.

I think its ok but they should have the heat being exausted with all the heat these new cards (more especially the 2900) put out.. they need to startt making vga sinks like the AC golden days!

Gonna wait till they have some more, payday is in a week or so, I'm just waiting for the right card to move to a PCIe system, and at that price it certainly looks like the best performance/price ratio deal you'll find these days.

Yeah, it seems all of us early adopters may have been pwned again. Oh well, I'll do a full rebuild at tax return time, and retire this 2900 to HTPC use.

I dunno. To me this part of the article stuck out the most

Both NVIDIA and AMD were very upset over how little we thought of their DX10 class mainstream hardware. They both argued that graphics cards are no longer just about 3D, and additional video decode hardware and DX10 support add a lot of value above the previous generation. We certainly don't see it this way. Yes, we can't expect last years high-end performance to trickle down to the low-end segment, but we should at least demand that this generation's $150 part will always outperform last generation's.

This is especially important in a generation that defines the baseline of support for a new API. The 2400 and 8400 cards will always be the lowest common denominator in DX10 hardware (until Intel builds a DX10 part, but most developers will likely ignore that unless Intel can manage to pull a rabbit out of their hat). We can reasonably expect that people who want to play games will opt for at least an 8600 or a 2600 series card. Going forward, developers will have to take that into account, and we won't be able to see key features of games require more horsepower than these cards provide for the next couple of years.

What this says to me is this transition into the directx 10 isn't going to come quickly, buy a card that runs well on games now. That combined with other statements in the article hinting game makers are not likely to make games that have stunning features only available to directx10 as they make the transition.

Seems to me the best thing to do right now is buy the card that works best now. Great link by the way

ok ok, you say oblivion aint high end? well what about running it at 1920x1200, all settings maxed out, with vegetation mods and other enhancements, your talking utter bollox.

and has any1 ACTUALLY bothered playing, say call of jaurez on a dx10 card? i ran it at 1920x1200 pretty maxed out and IT RAN GREAT.

so i dont feel ripped off at all, or pwnt by industry

How exactly did you do what you said above ?

no no, i ment i ran the actual single player game at those rez and settings, the benchmark was a seperate program, and apparentluy stresses our systems far more than during the actual game, i got so much better performance on the actual game than the benchy
